19" LCD ratio regarding MAME - 5:4 or 4:3?

Quick question for those that have a MAME set up.

I'm looking to put a 19" LCD in my cab, and when finding monitors on Ebay, most of the ratios listed are 5:4. The current LCD that I'm using now, is a 4:3 ratio, and the full screen option doesn't distort the picture or have any black bars (except for vertical games, which is OK). My fear is that buying a 5:4 monitor will create these unwanted black bars and/or stretch the image when ran in full screen.

Is this an unfounded concern? Will the 5:4 aspect monitors work just as well with MAME than the 4:3 ones?

Thanks

Almost all 19" LCDs have a native AR of 5:4 because their native resolutions tend to be 1280x1024. It's a production thing I do believe, being SXGA.

If it's really that worrysome to you, get a 20" as none or almost none of them are 5:4.
The 19" segment of LCDs are pretty much all like this.

There is no "issue" really, but if you want unscaled in any way shape or form 4:3...you won't want 5:4. Then again, you're using an LCD to begin with. ;)

Edit: This is true of 17" LCDs as well.

Searching for the 20" models has already solved my dilemma!

Very informative post - thanks!
