Hi all. I know that many of you hate these things, but I've got a Defender cabinet empty, with a nice new control panel and set of stencils. It needs a brain, and JROK isn't making those MW boards any time soon, and I really want a multi williams.

So I was thinking of putting a 19 in 1 in there, but hate the idea that the left<->right joystick position is thrust and reverse, or however you have to setup the controls (seems confusing).

I saw that many sites selling the 19in1 now mention a 6 button version. Does this fix the issue? IOW, can I setup a Jamma harness correctly and have all the buttons work if I use a MW Control Panel. I've tried the magic search box, but can't come up with the info I want/need.

Does anyone know if the "new" 6 button version will hook up to a CP correctly and play accurately?

Thanks

Steven

bump for the day.

I have a limited purchasing window, so if anyone knows this info I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

The 6 button version will work the way you want it - if you disable all the games but Defender and use a Defender control panel with a 2-way joystick. Then you only have up-down and you won't be able to use left-right for reverse-thrust. Otherwise, it works the same as before.

Still - a 19-in-1 is cheaper than an entire Defender boardset, and plays the same (as far as I can tell). Plus it's probably more reliable (no RAM errors) when use with a switcher.

The last one I did - I made two control panels so the owner could swap in the Defender panel for that game, then swap to another panel for Robotron, Joust, etc...

I am installing one in a generic JAMMA cabinet this weekend. Plus I am planning to make a MW panel so I can swap it out for my Robotron panel.

You are welcome to come over and try it when I get it fired up.

make sure you get the correct 19-1 board. they used to call it the A version/larger/has an extra chip on it. and it's about 85 bucks more than the cheaper/smaller version.

As mentioned (by me) about three times so far, the newest B version also has 6-button support - and is quite a bit cheaper than the A. Just make sure you get the 6-button B version...
