Our 18W has a serious wheel issue. You can continually turn it left as it makes a clicking sound... that can't be good for the pot. It yanks right when it's centered too.

Does anyone know how these are supposed to be put together? It's nothing like the belt-based wheel setups I'm used to. A diagram would be nice.

if anyone finds anything out about this, I need to know too. it won't damage the wiper itself, I don't think, but it does bust the back cover off the pot.

ours has always had this centering issue, I fucked with that thing for probably 15 hours total over the course of 2 years and still never reached a resolution.

I had to reattach the counterweights, since some knucklefuck broke the bolts off in the plate. I was able to drill one out and not destroy the threads.

I worked for Namco when !8 wheeler came out....Mine came into my arcade with this issue..The steering stop bolts break..Only fix is to either tap out broken bolts and reattach them or order new steering stop from sega...wheel takes abuse when its whipped hard to right or left...use only case hardened bolts and use plenty of locktight...no miracle fix here.

oh shit, it makes sense now. those bolts ARE supposed to stick out to stop it. ok then.

that explains why they were bent at like 45 degree angles :p

I found a diagram in the manual.... that's WRONG. It shows many parts that are not only not inside my machine, but simply wouldn't fit, most notably what appears to be a force feedback motor. Maybe our manual is for a deluxe? Anyone have a manual that's confirmed to have shipped with a standard sitdown?

Interestingly though, it shows a "SPACER PLATE" over the top of that stopping block, that the bolts are supposed to go through as well. This isn't present in my machine. Makes me wonder...

Anyway, taking it apart, we found the bolts you're talking about, BROKEN OFF inside the machine. We got lucky and managed to pick them out, and we're putting new bolts in. The steering pot reads okay, but just turns and turns; I think I'll replace it for good measure. I also found the spring assembly (big pinion jobbie, NOT on the manual's diagram!) and managed to destroy it :( I'm gonna call Happ, but if anyone has a better idea, let me know.
