$125 down the drain

All his friends know that i'm pretty anal about my games however they can play them whenever they want and the only real rules i have are no drinks and do not abuse my shit or you're done. This was just plain stupidity, disrespect and somebody has to pay.

I agree. Making your son pay not only replaces the damage but ultimately it makes him realize that when his friends are down there HE is the one responsible.

Many may disagree but this is definately one of the best ways to make someone learn a lesson.

Dude, shit happens!

You want or let them to hang out and play at your house, things will happen.

Guess they won't be now, count on that, so your restos will last even longer now.

Yes it sucks not saying I won't be upset too, but seriously, its just a game, an accident and can be fixed. I doubt the kid(s) did it on purpose but more from being in the moment of game play.

And get rid of the metal backed stools to prevent future accidents.

I don't think it was overreacting, really. I'd be mightily pissed, especially if nobody owned up to it. They all had to know who it was using that stool.

If you all came home and your kid and his friends were sitting on the hood of your car, and when they got up it was all scratched and dented, would you all be as forgiving?

These are objects, but people should respect other people's property. Simple as that.

Just to clarify things a bit, these stools have never been allowed by my games and these guys have been to my house hundreds of times since they were little shits. At 19/20 years old, common sense should tell you that you don't wedge a large barstool against a wall, another piece of furniture or my games. There really is no excuse and the "shit happens" theory doesn,t fit here.

I think in this case there is a line between accidents and blatant disrespect. Accidents can happen in a gameroom with anyone, especially when kids are involved, younger or older. In this case it is impossible for someone not to "feel" or "hear" the barstool scraping up against the cabinet and wood. It seems to me that they just didn't care. It seems to be a big problem with some peoples kids these days, with entitlement issues and the ability to do what they want without any repercussions.

I don't think it was too severe at all. It is a good lesson in responsibility. I've never really restored the exterior of my games since most are in good shape plus we have kids over all the time. The worst I've ever done is kick some teenage punk out of my house who went and turned on a game without asking and spilled some pop on the brand new CPO. Plus I didn't like the parent (co worker of my wife) and it was a good excuse to get her and her lard ass son out of my house.

Remember, the only way to do a full, 100% authentic restore is to make a few cigarette burns on the CP.

Otherwise, it just doesn't look right.

I couldn't agree more.

I'm always amazed at those (like on here) with the "shit happens" attitude. A reflection of where we are as a society, I think.

At the end of the day, it's your kids friends and he should be responsible if they aren't going to man up. Good for you!

It all depends how you feel once you cool down. Lots of time gets put into these games when restoring them and when you love your hobby you can take things very personal. If you can look back and say you don't think you over reacted then you did the right thing.

It seems as if you have been gaming/collecting for a long time. I would think your son would have given his friends some kind of warning!!!

The hood of the car example does not fit because a hood is not something that should be sat on, like a stool in an aracde. And, a hood is not to be used like that and you dont have permission to sit on the hood, such as an $600 aracade game to be played with and these kids had permission to do so.

If this were a toddler, would you have beat the kid instead because they cannot pay for the damage?

Knowingly sitting on someones hood is disrespect for sure.
The cluprit here knowingly did not do this on purpose. Playing an arcade game and spinning a stool while watching or playing and concentrating in the heat of game play, is an accident.

And yes, shit does happen. Otherwise it would not have. Of course these stools are not supposed to be in the gameromm, I'm sure there are also many, many, other rules for your games too.

Sure, someone DID cause it, they did not knowingly and purposely says, hey lets swing the stool around and ding up this guys game. Sounds cool! You do it, no you do it!

Collect the money from your son to fix the damn machine and move on.

Or leave it unfixed for all to see making an example out of it, this is what happens when you don't pay attention and you will pay for damages.

Things will happen again for sure when a game is played.

I wouldn't have made them pay for it, but then I realized you're talking about GROWN MEN. Hell yeah I'd make them pay for it! ... AND make them put it on, until they got it right. I thought you were talking about an 8 year old.

Not the same, but my 12 year old ended up charging over $600 to iTunes and $250 to his cell phone. While he should have known better, Apple & T-Mobile did not make it very clear that he was being charged... I was able to get most of the T-Mobile bill reversed, but Apple told me to go F*$k myself in no uncertain words... He ended up losing his iTouch until he paid back every penny. took him 6+ months. but you know what? He gets it now...

After causing less severe, but still noticeable, damage to my own cabs, I've just learned to chill out and be less of a perfectionist with my stuff. $hit happens, grab a beer and play some Missile Command. Enjoy your games, that's my philosophy nowadays.

This is more of my philosophy too, but Chris's games are beyond perfect and he is a perfectionist. What I would think is in good condition, he thinks is landfill. Sorry Chris, I know how much time and effort you put into your restorations. Hopefully it can be fixed without too much effort.

Sure... And not saying someone was not at fault here, or no one should pay, but this was an accident, not intentional... No one will fess up to it because they are scared for many reasons, its obvious. There are many examples of this in the site also.

Before you rule in favor of the defese toolguy, there's two horizontal scrapes almost a foot long and there's also four different vertical scrapes from the chair being slammed up against the cabinet, this is not an accident, it's plain and simple carelesness. Yes I'll fix it and move on but it won't be chalked up as a shit happens kinda thing.

I feel your pain Chris. For all you fellas out there that have never seen Chris's games in person; they are immaculately restored. There's a difference between a scratch on a control panel from being excited while you play, and huge gouges in the sideart from being a disrespectful dumbass.

I'd make them all help replace that sideart(physically) so they can see just how hard it is to do that.
