Wow, I made a list of all the project games in the gayrage and all that needs to be done to them and realized that at the current rate, I will never get any of them done. That is ALL.

Oh and how do you guys prioritize which projects you get to? Do you focus, or, like me, run around scattershot working on 5 at a time and never really getting far on any of them? FUCK.

One at a time and once I start I don't stop until it is done. Balls to the wall. It's the only way. It's the starting part that is hard.

"Run around scattershot working on 5 at a time and never really getting far on any of them." I am glad I am not the only one!

I take the focused approach. Work on one game at a time but trouble shoot others so I can order parts all at once to avoid multiple shipping charges. I need to start keeping a repair log for each game so I don't forget what I've tried or replaced since sometimes the repairs get put on a back burner because of life.

Yeah, me too. Maybe we have a little ADD? I will tear into all of them until nothing works, then gradually start putting them back together so I have something to play.

Glad im not the only one.. i really need to focus and get one done..time to make a list like you did Phet and set some goals...

I used to have almost 20 projects. Once I got my space finalized I moved the ones in that were nice and then prioritized the rest based on what I liked. The rest I have slowly and grudgingly sold off. I hope to whittle it down to just one project at a time. Tough to do with so many deals to be had these days!

I think I'm up to like 22+ projects.

They are like stray dogs... can't leave them out in the cold!

Right now it's a matter of a lack of time, money and space. Other then that, I would be working on them! My plan is to do multiple at one time when I do get around to them. Take several cabs and strip them all down, then bondo and repaint.

The hard part for me is my wife. She hates the hobby, and hates being in the house without me (yet can leave and go places without me). I was out in the shop for about 4 minutes last night when she decided to rollerblade to her Vball game rather than drive, making me go in the house to tend to the kids. Last weekend, I had the kids Friday afternoon thru Saturday afternoon while she went to an overnight birthday party out of town. When she got back, I handed her one kid, shipped the other off with Grandma and said, I'll be in the garage trying to get to some projects. 2 hours later, she was already on my case that I don't help her out with the kids while she is home. BTB, one was gone, so she had only one to watch. This is after I had both kids, by myself, for 28 hours straight. Sunday is now designated family day, so I am not allowed to work on any projects. Bottom line, she is shop-blocking and has been for 5 months. I just want my gayrage and my free time back. :(

I try to work on one at a time. With a wife and kids, that is the only way they will get done. I just finished my Out Run "resto", and it looks great, IMHO. There are so many damn mechanical parts on that game, and so much shit was broken, I never would have finished it otherwise.

Now I'm on to rebuilding my Tempest monitor, and I'm not stopping until that game is 100%.

The only exception is sometimes when parts trickle in for different games, I may switch gears and temporarily work that another game out of sheer excitement. F'rinstance, I just got my custom "Multi-pac" cocktail underlay in the mail, and I almost peed myself and had to install it immediately...

Shop-blocking. Classic.
I hear you man. I hear you big time. My shop time is from midnight-5am. And that is usually interrupted by a crying, sleepy kid. Also provided I don't fall asleep on the couch before midnight. Getting old sucks. :004_ssleepy:

Fuck yeah, my best work used to be done about 3am, can't do it anymore. Too old, too tired, etc.

As far as for helping daddy WB, my daughter loves to, but guess what? Getting her out of Mom's hair isn't good enuff, it's both kids or nothing. Or I have to be in the house, even if I'm just sitting there. My boy can't even sit up yet (though he can roll over woohoo!!), so he's not much help. Plus, the shop is getting crowded and full of fragile and dangerous objects. I'd rather not have my hyperactive daughter tripping over shit, breaking it, or getting hurt.

I just wish the wife was more helpful, or at least understanding. She refuses to ever take one for the team. I think I will try the focus on one thing. That will help.

Sounds like he'd be good for applying side art. :D

For me, I never seem to be able to work on my own stuff. I fix other people's broken crap all day, then go home and am less than motivated to work on my own.

When I do work on stuff at home, I concentrate on the stuff that I need to finish so I can sell it. Someday I may actually run out of the stuff I don't want to keep, then I can actually work on my own stuff...

Pick your Battles wisely young Jedi. Almost 20 years of marriage to the same woman has taught me many things.

You have designated a family time day, do the same for a don't fuck with me I am out in the shop day.

I usually try to focus on one at a time, but sometimes something else pops in. Like the 720 -- I started with the Joust cocktail and while waiting for parts/tools/gluing I pulled out the 720 and started that. Was really enjoying the 720 so I just finished that first. Now it's back to the Joust.

But always best to concentrate on one at a time, even if it is only an hour here or an hour there. Hell even a few minutes here and there.

With my current job I get home a few hours before my wife and kids do, so I take that time and try and work on project, becuase once they get home they make sure I am not able to work on my stuff. I've had 2 projects in my garage for the last year and recently I sold a bunch of HAM radio stuff I had to make money to finish my projects. Sadly I am out of money and now need cash for the last project. I'll have one done by the end of next week.

Unfortunately I have a Jukebox project coming in tomorrow, so I guess will replace one project with another.. I need to stop taking on projects until the others are finished.
