10' video extension cable .. can't believe I didn't do this years ago!

Ever been troubleshooting a game and wish you could plug the monitor into another nearby working game to quickly see if it's a monitor issue or a boardset issue without having to swap monitors? Well I have, many times.

Today it finally occurred to me to spend an hour and build a 10' extension harness out of CAT5 cable.

It works great! Doesn't even have impedance issues. I thought it would with the distance and thin gauge of the wire. I wired it up so that it 'should' work with Electrohome and WG. So far I have tested it with a WG K4600 and K4900 with no problems.

Cool.

I have one like that for the WG6100 monitor...

Can you take close up pics of the connectors? So that I can build my own without figuring out which pins go where? :D

Wow! That's really clever. You can turn an ethernet cable into a video cable! Crazy talk!

I wouldnt have used cat5 for that. The solid wires cant take much flexing and its going to break.
I have an assortment of these I use on the bench and occasionally in a game.

Plz

Pretty cool Ryan. Can you mail me one with an extended power chord as well :)

Yes, I can.

Kind of what I thought as I read about it.

The same day that Ryan posted this, I was sitting here pinning Moon Patrol Harness' thinking about making these. I figured why do it, Bob makes them already.

BTW, good job Ryan. I just had to make these for a Centipede I was working on, and it makes a world of difference when you are trying to get a monitor all dialed in. Eliminates the need for a mirror or second person to help you get it all adjusted.

Made one for troubleshooting an Asteroids with a G05-802, and it made fixing and adjusting the monitor a snap.

Thanks for the comments guys. Whats with all the cornflower blue talk .. I have no idea what your talking about. lol

Riptor, I totally agree about the solid core CAT5. I used stranded tho, got it for $.40/ft at the local electronics shop. :)

Dave, Ill make you one and a power harness to go with it if you sell me your Battlezone for $50 .. deal? haha
