Well, here I am- my 1 yr anniversary of signing up to KLOV.
At the time I had 3 machines- now I'm losing track, 27 or somewhere there'bouts. My primary reason for signing up was to learn more about the repairing and restoring these wonderful pieces of art and history. And that's kept the obsession burning pretty strong and continuous so far.
Some of the years highlights:
Deals-
Scoring a $5 "spider-man" cab that turned out to be a Robotron. Now fully restored.
$150 for a Donkey Kong that looked like it had fallen off a truck! Nearly every piece needed something. Fully restored and sold for unbelievable price around xmas.
2 Tempests in one weekend, both broken. 1 now working and beautiful, 1 semi workin.
$50 Dedicated Star Trek- working soon I sure damn hope!
A Marvel Super Heroes machine- that lived its whole life as a gift from Capcom to the Marvel Studios here in LA. They called me! "Here- take it."
Repairs-
Capping and repairing over 20 monitors! Whew! Id never touched a solder iron before last yr, and no way I would've ever thought i could fix an old TV tube, hell they scared me- thought i was gonna get shocked and die. Thanks Klov, and several of the fantastic monitor gurus we have on here.
Learning the fine art of PAINT REMOVAL! I had at least 3 cabs this yr that somebody had painted over pristine side art. I could barely believe my eyes when I discovered this new cab id picked up was a xevious, painted all black from head to toe. Side art was virtually untouched under that black and Tetris sticker it had on it. I have to thanks my girlfriend for the paint touchup job she did on that afterwards too- it was a group project.
Then when I really got going good, through slow work periods- I repaired about 15 other peoples machines, and built 2 custom multi's.
Sales
I sold some games I had fully restored, back to clist nearly doubling my money on every sale. That added plenty of fuel to the fire for getting more (hey when the restore is over I feel great- then bored- and I need more work heheh!)
Wooowee, fun aszz trip so far! What's next? Couple of us gettin reeeeeal serious about opening up a Bar Arcade in the SFV.... stay tuned!
Thank you to the community, thanks to Klov, and heres to many, many more years of collecting, and restoring these classic pieces of art. <insert noisemaker sounds here>
