I've got a '79 Williams Laser Ball and since I got it one of the right upper flipper was a bit weak but usable. Then a few weeks ago my son was playing it and he held down the button for I'll guess 20 seconds. Since then it hasn't worked. I've never done any flipper repair so I'm not sure what to try. I did have a flipper coil so I figured I'd throw that in there but it didn't change anything.

Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks

check for broken wires, and check the switches inside the cabinet at the flipper button

the switches often wear and need cleaning/replacement
you can measure continuity with a dmm to see if they still work

and there probably is 1 wiring providing power that comes from the bottom flipper, so check there there is no loose wire

You should really check what you have soldered. But what also should have been checked if you could move the flipper by hand before you changed the coil. In my experience when a coil is fried the flippers are stuck because of the plastic inside get's burned. You can still check the old coil, if you can move the inside tube of the coil. If so, it might be something else.

If it's not the coil, there isn't much left that could be wrong in that era machine. Particularly if the other two flippers are working ok.

Clean and adjust the EOS switch on the coil, make sure it moves freely with no binding, and that the wiring is correct. Check for voltage at the coil.

If that's all ok. check for voltage at the flipper activation switch, clean and adjust. On Laser Ball, it's the extra switch on the lower right flipper assembly, NOT at the button.

Most flipper problems are switch related, and a good systematic cleaning and adjustment will cure it.
