After posting about the Exterminator I found, it lead me to think about WHAT GAMES ARE ACTUALLY WORTH $1,000 or more.
Me personally, I would never pay that much, not even for something super rare. But I am curious.

What do YOU think is worth that? Have you ever paid a $1,000 or more for a game?

Dragon's Lair
Dragon's Lair II
Quantum??
Robotron Cocktail??

A fully-restored game can easily cost $1000. Find a mint Tempest or Star Wars and you could spend that much, although less-pretty versions can be had for cheaper.

And though some people claim otherwise on the value, you'd be hard-pressed to get any of the current working Joust Cocktail owners to sell their game for under $1000.

Add Computer Space, Pong (original), and a few other older ones to the list...

I'm gonna take the original question to mean games that are unrestored and the prices they usually sell for being at least a grand and possibly more.

Quantum
Food Fight
Zookeeper
EDOT
DOT
SW cockpit
Reactor
Chiller
Pong
computer space
I, Robot
Missile Command Cockpit
Journey
warlords cocktail
super don quixote
sundance
freedom fighter
cubes quest
begas battle
kosmik kroozer
major havok

Yes. This is what I meant. Any mint or restored game could run for well over 1k. I'm talking about unrestored non mint.

FWIW, my impressions:

Food Fight
Zookeeper

Yeah, Zookeeper is firmly in the $1K club. The last eBay auction confirmed that for me.

Food Fight: depends on the condition. I still see the URs go from $700-$900. A beauty could def. fetch $1K.

FF cocktail: $1k + IMHO. Only 100 made.

Tron
DIscs of Tron
Space Ace
Reactor
Super Punch-Out
Crossbow
Chiller

Seems like you can get a UR Tron for under $1K; all about condition. I would think Crossbow, too. Then again, Crossbow doesn't come up very often. I could be wrong.

Super Punch-Out!! only came as a kit, right?

you get what you pay for! why is it that a thousand dollar game seems so absurd??

I personally would not pay that for a game. I actually like getting a game cheap that needs work done to it. It is fun to fix it up and make it look good again.

I am surprised to see Food Fight on that list. I thought that was around a $400 game. Wish someone here in the Twin Cities had one I could test two potential working boards on!

I see alot of them 1K and over, but all of them are Neo Geo home games.

$35,000+ Aero Fighte 3 US. Newly unearth 17 year old game, still being authenticated.
$35,000+ Kizuna Encounter US. OK fighting game sold in Europe only BITD. 5 known copies.
$30,000+ SuperSideKicks 4 US. Soccer game.
$10,000+ Neo TurfMaster US. Golf game.
$6000+ Ninja Masters US
$6000+ King of Fighters 2000 US. Fighting game, 100 copies.
$5000+ Metal Slug US. Very popular Contra style game.
$2000+ Other games: DOUBLE DRAGON US, Samuai Shodown 4 US, Real Bout 2 US, BREAKERS JPN, Chibi JPN, NEO DRIFT OUT JPN, Shock Troppers 2 JPN, Metal Slug 2 US, FATAL FURY MARK OF THE WOLVES US

Yeah, Zookeeper seems to be a known $1000 game. I just bought one. I think Super Punch-Out! is both dedicated and a kit. I've seen owner's manuals for a dedicated cab and a manual for converting from a Punch-Out! cab. Same goes for Arm Wrestling.
