IIRC the original chexx was a PL-7 bulb. Otherwise you could convert to led and alleviate the heat

I'm helping my neighbor with the same issue. Dell Optiplex 740, on boot screen says disconnected. The pc power light stays solid amber. The weird part is. I can disconnect the serial cable and bbh power from the Y splitter and the pc boots as normal. I can even connect the pc to the bbh monitor...

Plugged in new power supply, same issues. I brought the computer home and checked the bios settings. There were some that could cause some issues I suppose. I'll bring the computer down and try with the new settings.
