Kee Tank/Tank 2 - anybody do the mods?

Depends upon which mods you're looking at... The ones I originally referenced were the ones to allow steerable shells, reset tank position after each kill, etc., and were called out in the Playmeter article (see attached). My efforts were around changing the playfield by hacking the original...

Anyone taking in Midway 8080 boards for repair?

I've used the Braze Space Invaders multi-game for testing / repairing many of these - it's been quite useful. A sufficiently working daughterboard (Roadrunner, Tornado Baseball, Gun Fight, Space Encounters, etc.) of whatever you have handy will suffice; just need to be able to reset the board...

What Bronze Age board should I redesign next?

ROM PCB with new, easily switchable layouts for Tank/Tank II, and maybe one for Gran Trak? There are a fair number of Tanks out there, so perhaps a reasonable base of interest? You've already got the design for the ROM replacement PCB, so it would just be a matter of adding a bit more hardware...

"How to Design and Build Your Own Custom TV Games"

Buddy stumbled across a hardcover of the book at a used book store, and after a bit of digging, I found a PDF: How-to-Design-and-Build-Your-Own-Custom-TV-Games 504 pages describing how to use TTL to create graphics, motion circuits, scoring circuits - and details for various specific games...

    Tank ROM replacement solution wanted

Placement looks correct - as you note the socket's not going to work as-is. I'd verify the pins you have on the bottom will comfortably fit in the socket on the board, assuming you're not planning to just solder the adapter into the board. As noted, I've not ordered any of these PCB's (yet)...

    Tank ROM replacement solution wanted

Decided to check the PCB layout against the adapter I’d tried building originally, and found that it was pretty close. I’d wired in a 7404 as I thought the /OE had to be inverted as well. Removed the 7404, tied the /OE and /CS pins to ground, and instead of modifying the board to remove the -12v...

I'm ready to place an order for these - have either of y'all built up an adapter yet and confirmed it's functioning as expected?

    Tank Rubber Grips

I ordered some off eBay when I was rebuilding my sticks, and they were pretty much a perfect match - just a common black bicycle grip it appears! Throw up more pic's of the cocktail once it's up and running.

Kee Tank/Tank 2 - anybody do the mods?

Quick update on hacking the maps... When viewing the file, the second map in the list is the default map it appears. The game is designed to reserve a 13 x 16 area in the middle of the map that's exclusive for mines. You can't put walls there, and you can't put mines outside of that area...

Kee Tank/Tank 2 - anybody do the mods?

@fortytwo Thanks - let us know once the files are available (either via link with the supplier, or attach here), and I'll definitely pickup at least 2 or 3 sets. Agree that the blind tank mod isn't particularly interesting. Otherwise, @electrotim had already figured out the Tank ROM layout a...

Kee Tank/Tank 2 - anybody do the mods?

@fortytwo Sounds good - I actually just picked up a second board set off eBay over the weekend, and it should arrive sometime next week. No clue if it's working (assuming not), but once it's good to go, I'll have a boardset that's ready for the modifications! If you're going to work with a pcb...

Tank not tracking shells - Help please

Here's a thread tracking issues/troubleshooting with mine, that includes links for pulling down all of the relevant troubleshooting, upgrade options, etc. I've not picked up a second boardset to date to do the mods to (I'd like to keep my current board stock), but plan to do so at some point.

    Tank ROM replacement solution wanted

FWIW, I ended up getting mine working at the time; I was missing a voltage (+12 I think - it's been a while?) that was only used by the ROM that I missed. Once I addressed that, it worked fine. I would still very much like to see an adapter made available, given how unique the ROMs are, and how...

Tank II Pickup - Official Club Bronze member

Correct; no retreat! There were several hacks/upgrades published that add some cool features though - steerable bullets for example, and having your tank reset to the home position after each death. I plan to pick up an extra board set at some point to modify so I can swap between the original...

FYI - "Tankers" CP from Fun Games on eBay... Tankers CP Came across this a bit ago; had never heard of this company (Fun Games). Appears they have several knock-offs of Kee Games titles? Anybody know if these were authorized, and/or whether they used the same PCB's as the Kee/Atari version...
