Atari Sprint 2 - repair logs .. got a bunch of experience points here..

*** Note: I formatted this on a PC. Not sure how it will show up on a phone *** A repair shop that I've done some work for asked me if I would take a look at Sprint 2. I've only worked on a few bronze age games. One thing about them is you can see how the golden age games evolved from the...

G05 - HV Transformer wire to cup - chewed upon - fixable?

Under normal circumstances - I'd just replace the HV transformer. But these aren't normal circumstances since this one is not available as a replacement. I haven't powered it up - but I'm told it was working. Is there a 'goo' or some way to wrap this and make it 'better'?

Battlezone Repair - with a little CATBOX magic..

Got a Battlezone in for repair and I haven't posted any interesting ones in a while.. Reported symptom - just a blinking line on the screen occasionally. I connected up the stack to my test rig and confirmed, the board was not running. I generally clean all the chip legs and inspect the board...

    A Refreshing, Ice Cold Beer

*** Note: I formatted this on a PC. Not sure how it will be on a phone *** I didn't want to call this a restoration, because I would have fixed the cabinet cosmetics if it was.. So let's call this refreshing. Something I haven't done in quite a while - worked on one of my own machines! I had...

    Star Wars repair log: Sideways..

I'm in the middle of a repair on a Star Wars set and ran in to an interesting problem.. Tower wave slowly degrades.. The fighter and trench waves play 100% normal. I haven't put it back on the bench yet, I plan on looking at it again tonight. So.. I'm leading with the issue :) Once I know...

Repair log: Centipede and the case of the borderline chip...

This one started pretty simple, then this repair turned into an interesting test of will... If you are a computer nerd.. read on.. Self test would not work for some reason, game ran, but it was a mess. Connected up to tester - all ROM good and a bad RAM@F2. Replace it and it seemed 100%...

    Atari Football - repair logs

Never enough repair logs here - this one was fun. I never played this back in the day - a little research showed that while the trackball had been used in a couple of games prior to Atari Football - this machine made trackballs popular. Got a request from an arcade I've done some repair...

    PSA: #8 x 32 x 3/8" machine screws

It might be just me, but these little guys I've looked for on and off for a while and could never find a match for the originals. No problems getting an #8x32 that worked - but none that matched the originals for monitor chassis, etc.. This one is a perfect match - hex washer head - no slot -...
