Got the replacement boards in from Mike's Arcade. All of them work better now, but... Yellow worked for around 5 hours, but then began that exact behavior after that. (Turning left is jumpy, turning right is fine.) I could really use a replacement PAL.

I take the entire blue panel off, and plug it into either spot. Here's the weird thing - they'll start working, and then give out about 5-10 minutes into the game being on. It makes it suspect as to whether it's an opto problem or a board problem.

I have a super offroad doing this with Red and Yellow. However, when I plug in blue into either spot, it starts working immediately. I'm assuming that means that the optical encoders are bad, not the chips on the board. That said, is it still be possible those are bad? Did you ever post the PLD...

Just wanted to add to this thread, had the exact same issue, those sounds not playing. Socketed the RAM at IC87 and IC91, and replaced them with Cy7C128. Mine was 35ns instead of the 25ns listed on twisty wrist, just bought them off eBay. Apparently, the original were 120ns, so anything less...

I don't think that is what he meant by none - I think he meant that vector monitors in general are unreliable. Has nothing to do with their beauty. A rose still has thorns, and the vector monitor thorns are a pain in the ass to deal with.
