Vertical grade laminate is thin enough to not affect the t-molding. I've done many games and still purchased regular t-molding sizes. Black vertical grade laminate would be your best choice.

I just meant to give you a cleaner surface for the vinyl the second time around. But if you already have them cut and ready, yeah, no need.

This is where you might want to go back and get a piece of laminated MDF like Phetishboy suggested. Probably worth the extra money to save the prep?
