I keep convincing myself I will catch up and keep it under ten. Hasn't happened so far.

First get rid of the rust. Then prime with metal paint primer. Then Paint base coat and top coat if you like. I use Rustoleum products. Usually the professional line as they have a much better coverage area/spray pattern. More consistent.

I can't remember if there is a manual. I know the only electrical is an incandescent bulb fixture for ambient lighting. Nearly everything is pure mechanical and levers, springs, pins can be fabricated. Both my doors were in rough shape and I made new ones. I just used locks I had on hand.

Not my best but my most recent. No before pictures though. Rust and layers of peeling paint were the biggest issues. Overspray onto the aluminum overlay was the second. All controls were gunked up with beer spillage. Plays like new now.

This is an original Space Invaders with untouched coin door for reference. I think the original is darker then the Deluxe models. I've had both.

I love the color pattern on the art. Its just different.

It can absolutely be improved. As some have stated it may take some time but often buff/polish the non-art side of plastic bezels and marquees with great results. Here is a good example on my Breakout. Before buffing it was extremely dull and hazy. Afterwards it was like looking through...

I'd mask off the wire wound part and neck, then sand the look rust off before doing any cleaning. Then paint.

If it was me and I wasn't building a new door I would cut out the entire bad area with your jigsaw (squared up). Go a little bit beyond where its damaged so your into some solid wood. Go slow and use a newish blade for minimal tear out. Then cut out a new piece of wood in the proper...
