Cool.
Save the old connector and pins, as you can use those pins to repair others in the future.
It's rare to need to repin an entire connector, as at worst you may only have one or two pins that need to be replaced, if they are burned up and can't be repaired. It's far less work, and you're...
You can extract those pins from the edge connector, resolder the wires to them, and return everything back to stock, without needing to buy anything. You'll need an extraction tool (or a correct-sized bobby pin) to remove the pins. But there's just a metal locking tab inside the connector...
Except a hammer works consistently when used properly.
AI so far doesn’t work reliably or well enough to be useful for anything I’ve seen.
And it isn’t going to get better anytime soon. The whole thing is a grift, based on a gimmick that isn’t much more than a party trick at the moment...
People act like CRT’s are evaporating or disappearing. Or they’re fragile things people need to worry about.
There’s no reason the CRT in any game today can’t last as long as the original Mullard tubes I have in my ST-70.
If you’re only running your games a few hours a week, you aren’t...
All very good points.
I was just going by how it smelled and acted. It made me want to try to mix the two, just to see what happened, but I didn't have enough CA on hand. But yeah, maybe the CA recombines once the acetone dries up? Dunno.
The fact that they don't seem to be very clear...
In which case it made me wonder at the time if you could make your own.
Only because the Varathane is expensive (like ~$20 a bottle, IIRC. And one bottle doesn't cover much if you need to do many parts of a cab. I think I used three bottles total.)
I've always thought the Varathane wood hardener you can get at Home Depot was actually just a diluted form of super glue (cyanoacrylate).
I used two cans of it restoring my Avalanche cab, which is particleboard, and mine was falling apart from moisture damage. It worked well and fully...
That's heartbreaking.
However as others have said, every metal and electrical part in there has value. I get if it might not be possible, but if it were me, every one of those cabs would get completely stripped, down to every nut, bolt, and bracket.
This is like saying, “All audio amplifiers will end up going solid state, because vacuum tubes will be impossible to find.”
It’s simply not true. The point of this hobby and community is to preserve original stuff and keep it going. And there’s ZERO reason why that can’t be done.
There...
Life’s too short to gamble on no-name caps.
The fact that they aren’t a brand name (and the fact that this person had a huge number of them) are red flags enough.
Toss them and spend $10 on top-shelf caps.
Ha. I actually noticed your LeCroy in an earlier post. (I'm a scope geek.) I worked for Keysight for a few years. But I've used high-end scopes from Tek, HP/Agilent/Keysight, and LeCroy, and like them all. LeCroy has always been the underdog of the scope world. The David to Tek's...
