FYI, those aren’t the solid knobs. Those are the hollow ones. The solid ones don’t have the nut inside and instead use set screws on the sides to secure to the shaft.

No. Asteroids needs an AR-I-01. This is an AR-I-03. The gain of the audio section is different, and it uses a different speaker connector. If you need a refurbed Asteroids AR, I have them.

The plans and code for making one are online. It's very easy. You just socket the ROM on a dead 7800 cart, and burn a new one with the tester code. If you want to test the inputs, you just add a bank of dipswitches.

Correct, those look like 3.5". For 4" shafts, the thicker upper part of the shaft is longer than the lower thinner part. Too bad though, as a box of 40 NOS 4" sticks would be worth a lot more, because those are sought after for Robotron. 3.5" sticks are still useful for some games, but not...

FWIW, last gray one on the right was a skinny 4-way base, that someone stuck a standard shaft in. Stick a proper tall skinny shaft, actuator, and grommet in it, and it's a Frogger stick.

Yes, they are completely different. That's why the OP mentioned machining them down. But even that would be tricky with the knob on them. These are basically just blue Robotron shafts.

Yeah, those are the NOS Wico ones Wu and Bob Roberts were selling years ago (in addition to the magenta ones). They're 4", so they'll technically work for Robotron, if you don't mind the color. I have a box of them myself.
