  1. Namco Rockin' Bowl-o-Rama custom animations and mod tool.

Here is the current video compiler, note its still very rough around the edges but feed it any mp4 file and it will create a video for you. I would love to come up with a better way to compress the videos as even right now file sizes are huge compared to the original animations. The compression...
  2. Namco Rockin' Bowl-o-Rama custom animations and mod tool.

Unfortunately I kinda lost interest in the project due to lack of real hardware to test on, so I’m not sure if what I’m doing will actually work. My test environment is just a real IO card but the game running on modern Linux. Right now the animation conversion tool is written in JavaScript...
  3. What vehicle do you transport games with?

I got this little 4x6 caravan trailer that is a mix of aluminum frame and a galvanized axle/tongue, I wish it was 8ft long but I love how light it is, only 240lbs empty you can tow it behind any car and it will hardly feel it.
  4. Namco Rockin' Bowl-o-Rama custom animations and mod tool.

Fairly quickly I found I could communicate with the game without actually knowing the full encryption scheme and an Arduino could be used as a replacement IO card. however I determined that that could pretty easily be used to pirate the game so I decided to instead focus on decrypting the...
  5. Namco Rockin Bowl o Rama add your own music

This offer still valid? DM me. https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/namco-rockin-bowl-o-rama-custom-animations-and-mod-tool.553043/
  6. Namco Rockin' Bowl-o-Rama custom animations and mod tool.

So I had to compress these down super hard to fit into the size limit, but anyone is free to test these animations on their own game I am curious to how they work on real hardware... I will leave what the animation is as a surprise but one was done in color at 10fps and the other was in a very...
  7. Namco Rockin' Bowl-o-Rama custom animations and mod tool.

I now have a prototype encoder/decoder functional that is able to read official game animations as well as encode new ones. the compression ratio still seems to be pretty low, I think there may still be something wrong with the algorithm. The demo linked shows me loading a video downloaded off...
  8. Namco Rockin' Bowl-o-Rama custom animations and mod tool.

Hello everyone, you may remember my last post regarding bowl-o-rama where I was able to successfully crack the IO cards Encryption, however due to the recent release of the replacement gameboard I decided to hold off refining and releasing the patch until the game is no longer supported. I have...
  9. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

You can run it at higher resolution and all rendered scenes work correctly but all images it draws are not. A lot of the game was hardcoded for 640x480 but it would probably be possible to make a mod to run it at higher resolutions. $600 is a bit high but if you consider the development time...
  10. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

Interesting, I have seen a similar issue where things would stutter when the IO card has difficulty communicating (usually due to incorrect encryption keys) however this does not seem to be the case here. What I can tell is that it is going significantly faster when it is not drawing the 3d...
  11. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

Definitely share a video, perhaps the CPU is overheating? Do you have sufficient ram installed? I think if you have 1GB or more installed it will load the game into a ramdisk and play off of that, less than that and it will run straight from the flash drive
  12. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

I noticed this too playing with my IO card when touching two wires together. It seems like the button debounce is a bit on the sensitive side. I would suggest replacing the micro switches, they are probably dirty/making bad contact when pressed.
  13. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

I can easily make a script to change the eth0 hardcode I suspect the issue with the AC97 adapter is that ALSA is detecting it as a secondary card for whatever reason, that should also be an easy fix. If you figure out what card you used for both audio and Ethernet I’ll pick those up myself to...
  14. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

On my end GPU and sound came up but then it crashed due to lack of ethernet since the motherboard I had did not have the same Ethernet controller.
  15. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

I can also report success with the Ati 9800 GPUs and promising results for a Ati Radeon x300, if someone has a PCIe motherboard with the same Ethernet adapter and AC97 sound I would be very interested in seeing if the original image works out of the box with it.
  16. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

Yup you are correct about the TGA format for the videos. I found the section of game code that actually reads it and it looks fairly straight forward, essentially its a custom header and then the compressed TGA data starts at byte 272. This weekend I need to implement my own way to read/write...
  17. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

Gimp is a pretty powerfull tool once you get the hang of it, in just a few minutes I threw together this abomination LOL.
  18. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

I'm working on animations now, all the art is in the data folder as .tga files. these can be opened and edited inside of Gimp You will need a linux computer to copy to/from the USB drive. The post I linked to goes into detail about that. Once you are happy with your edits, save it as the same...
  19. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

here is the best tutorial so far on customizing songs. I'm working on a tool to automate quite a bit of this but I'm not ready to show anything yet. I'll keep you posted https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/namco-rockin-bowl-o-rama-add-your-own-music.467373/
  20. Running Namco Rockin Bowl-o-Rama on unsupported hardware and without IO card

Just an update for everyone: Due to an official replacement being made by the developer and the chance that this key unlocking script could then be used to create a crack for the game and allow for pirated versions, I can not ethically work on it and have decided to stop development. If I...
