    PacMan PCB Repair

You're probably right — I think I do need that 9V 1A power supply for the GQ-4X4. Thanks for pointing that out. Also, do you happen to know where I can find the Pac-Man ROM files? I don’t want to ask for anything that’s not allowed.

    PacMan PCB Repair

Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of repairing an original Pac-Man board, and I've hit a snag when it comes to replacing one of the original 2532 EPROMs. One of the legs broke off when I removed it to reseat it, and now I'm looking into my options. I have a GQ-4X4 programmer, but no adapter and...

    IC Reader / Burner Recommendations

Hey all, I'm looking to pick up a device that will let me burn arcade ROMs, read/dump them, and ideally test chips to confirm they're still good. I'd prefer something that connects via USB to a modern desktop PC (Windows 10/11), and I've seen a lot of recommendations for the XGecu TL866II Plus...

    Gyruss Sound Issue

You're right, I am big dumb. Thank you, Time Piloteer. How do I delete this duplicate?

    Gyruss Sound Issue

I made sure the sound wiring is solid because I'll stick in my copy of Time Pilot and sound works perfectly. I originally bought this pcb off ebay broken and have been progressively making it less shitty as time goes on. I heard there was an old trick to determine whether sound amp chips are...

    Gyruss Sound Issue

So I'm diagnosing my Gyruss cabinet. Both amplifier chips were no good so I swapped them out and re-installed the heatsynchs on top using thermal paste. Unfortunately, the issue persists - it has no sound at all. I'm looking for guidance on where I should check next and how to go about checking...

    Gyruss No Sound!

Update: I changed out the amplifier chips but no such luck on any sound. I know the old amp chips burned out so they definitely still needed replacing. I heard it could be CPU2 or any of the following: "[Gyruss uses] two Z80 microprocessors, one 6809 microprocessor, and one 8039 microprocessor...

    Gyruss No Sound!

What about the heat syncs? I can just reuse them? Also, what's the paste that's in between them and the chip?

    Gyruss No Sound!

By any chance, does anyone know the replacement audio amp chip to gyruss? Or a modern substitute?

    Gyruss No Sound!

It seems both amps are indeed broken. One was working and then stopped. I didn't have time to unscrew the heatsync for the part number but those will be first to replace. Thank you for your insights on this, TimePiloteer

    Gyruss No Sound!

It definitely has nothing to do with my sound issue. I'm just proud I didn't burn myself. I haven't gone through any troubleshooting because I wasn't sure where to start. I will definitely start looking into some of this that you provided. Thank you, z0ner. :)

    Gyruss No Sound!

So I actually started soldering for the first time and effectively repaired a burnt edge-connector! However, the game has no sound which has left me wondering if a nearby pin had gotten damaged from the burn. Wanted to hear some other perspectives on the subject. I tried cleaning the other pins...

    CRT Repair Advice

So, I'd like to learn how to repair monitor boards (and eventually PCBs). However, like anyone, I don't want to practice on the machines I care about so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to get started in repairing monitors (and potentially PCBs)?

    Galaga Monitor Board Burn

I'm at work because I work 2nd shift and the machine is in a storage unit of mine so I don't have immediate access to it in my house. And now you know all about my life. :D

    Galaga Monitor Board Burn

Is there any way to confirm what monitor this is for certain so I can buy replacement pieces?
