What fixed your game today / general repair log

Noticed just recently that the K7000 in @CarrieZ 's Elevator Action had a little bit of a horizontal linearity issue where (more noticeably) the right side would get narrower. Using the TPG showed that there was also a mild version on the left side as well. Per @zenomorp, I knew it was probably...

Haha that's fair and explains a lot! 😂

What fixed your game today / general repair log

I was kind of surprised not one person chimed into my thread yesterday when I asked about the 350vdc on pin 10. But funny you mention the size adjustments. Since I had the monitor out, I adjusted the image some more and brought the sizes down a bit to fit the screen more. Picture is rock solid...

What fixed your game today / general repair log

Fixed the G08 (again) in @CarrieZ 's Space Fury yesterday. The night before, I noticed the monitor lost picture at some point while I had the games on. I could hear deflection chatter but when I tested voltages, I realized I had no HV. Pulled the monitor, gave the entire HV board a thorough...

SOLVED: Sad Clown! Exidy Circus is misbehaving. Help finding a bridge rectifier replacement?

UPDATE: Used a switcher for the 5V to test everything, and low & behold everything fired right up and worked 100%. Thankfully, it was just the 5V power as I [mostly] suspected and the PCB is just fine. *Sigh of relief* All that's left is getting a replacement rectifier and rebuilding that...

SOLVED: Sad Clown! Exidy Circus is misbehaving. Help finding a bridge rectifier replacement?

Well, I took a closer look at the M5000 manual and it appears that the T3 transformer supplies power to the monitor via the P3 connector as I suspected. I double checked the wiring to the transformer and it seems to confirm this and so I'm not really sure what those AC terminals on the 5V supply...

SOLVED: Sad Clown! Exidy Circus is misbehaving. Help finding a bridge rectifier replacement?

Cool. Yeah that's what I was thinking. Definitely going to try that when I have time. I'm just digging through the game & monitor manuals, trying to figure out if I still even need to have that little board/PSU installed at all. There doesn't appear to be a schematic for it that I can find...

SOLVED: Sad Clown! Exidy Circus is misbehaving. Help finding a bridge rectifier replacement?

Our Exidy Circus decided that today was the day for it to give us hell. I had the game on for a bit and suddenly the image went bonkers, and the audio went into a massive feedback/hum/squelch. I shut the game off, unplugged the edge connector and started inspecting. I suspected it was something...

What fixed your game today / general repair log

LOL  Scott's FPGA and Jason's FPGA look COMPLETELY different. @CarrieZ just made a simple mistake while racing to ship out the PCB/FPGA before she flew out to MN. (One was in the cabinet, one was outside, wrapped in bubble wrap.

What fixed your game today / general repair log

@CarrieZ and I recently discovered that her Tempest was producing very low volume. We really don't know when the issue began because for months (maybe years) we've been running Scott's Tempest multi FPGA and have had adequate volume/sound. Recently, we were trying Jason's multi FPGA and the...

What fixed your game today / general repair log

Fixed the 6100 in @CarrieZ 's Tempest today. Monitor had a very unstable image on powerup that would eventually become stable after 10-15 minutes. (The image would jump/expand and contract on both X and Y sporadically). Figuring it was an HV issue, all signs pointed to a cold solder joint and/or...

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

I also covered this topic in detail in my last video blog. I sometimes forget to post my videos on here, but also since there's an abundance of content surrounding the hobby, most of it is nothing new.

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

Okay, it's time for an update and some closure. After running test after test to try to figure out why the #04-10860 (Blitz) board was running roughly 4% faster than my original #04-11048 Vapor board, the only conclusion I was able to come to was that it had something to do with the difference...

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

Thanks. I'm good on chips/cpus, it's just the PCB itself I could use right now. But I'll let you know. Appreciate it!

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

Quick update: Made a bunch of other progress on the game - getting close to being done with Vapor #2 (other than linking both games.) On the speed variance front: My other parts board showed up. It's a model #04-11048.3. At first glance, the board looked complete and in decent shape so I...

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

Quick update: Called Arcade Services and spoke to someone regarding the speed differences. He basically said that the small speed difference with the attract mode may be a non-issue and I should just try linking both games and see how it plays. While I agree that he does have a point in that it...

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

Great suggestions! I just went out to compare the two. Both dip switch banks were the same as I expected. However, the main ROM had a different number on it. The one in my original Vapor (that's running correctly with the 200mhz U50) is marked "324400388" Whereas the other (slower) Vapor...

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

The saga continues... I realized today that I hadn't verified that my (slower) Vapor would run normally, at the proper speed, with the 200mhz U50 chip that was in my original Vapor (and runs properly.) I pulled the U50 chip and swapped it in the other Vapor (that's running at 150mhz) and...

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

Just wanted to make a little update: Today I received my first (of two) parts boards. This one was actually a San Francisco: Rush the Rock board which uses the Flagstaff hardware. Although this isn't the Seattle hardware, these boards appear to use the same R5000 processor and similar speed...

[SOLVED] Atari Vapor TRX wrong speed? (Slow?)

Yeah, it's interesting stuff. I swear that more than half of my posts are just to document things and for my own personal memory. I am glad that I noticed it early on, well before trying to link these games. What a pile of headaches that would have been.
