    Repair log: Sega/Gremlin Frogger

10+ year necrobump for happy camper vibes. Thanks @debaser138 , had the exact same issue yesterday, terrible loud hum despite a perfect board, tried replacing the power cord as ground lug was missing, grounded everything left and right, unplugged monitor, light ballast, couldn't find the...

Calling outrun owners, does your outrun do this?

Looks like even with the felt, the wings are still hitting the metal washer at the end of the axel. Try adjusting and positioning the wings so that they come in contact with the center of the rubber, not towards the end where the washer and screw is. It should make a sound but more like a thud...

Sea Wolf Repair Log (Project Noobero Uno)

It's supposed to be 4 and 2. Yep. Female, correct? I believe these are them exactly but please verify by looking at the style in the connector. I know they're smaller like this and have male too...

Sea Wolf Repair Log (Project Noobero Uno)

I'm picky about them and only order those in particular from Mouser or APAR because of fakes, if you order from Amazon, just to be sure to test them. Also, sidenote, check the 2 fuses and fuse holders down there while you're at it, be sure their correct, clean them and pinch them a little...

Sea Wolf Repair Log (Project Noobero Uno)

That looks 100x better. How's the back look? If the traces look good, I'd just replace the 3055 along with the silpad if you have one handy, pop it in and test the voltages with nothing connected and if all good and you can dial each one item respectively then can continue. You can always go...

Sea Wolf Repair Log (Project Noobero Uno)

Yeah, the fuse isn't right. It's not needed as Sea Wolf is already fused properly by the transformer so personally I'd remove it and clean up the traces and header pins on the main connector as I can tell that at least one of them is cracked where the lead of one the red wires is soldered to...

    Your recommended techniques for de-soldering?

A dremel?? Holy shit! I'll keep that one in my back pocket, that's hardcore.

    Atari AR2 Diode Question

By the way, nice diodes! they look brand new. Daily diode reminder: Current should only flow in one direction. When in doubt? Lift a leg and test again. Failure to do so may result in replacing all diodes, widening holes in your pcb, installing a sense mod and possibly replacing a good linear...

What fixed your game today / general repair log

So I've had this Aliens pcb and I love Aliens. It worked but had terrible sprites which made it unplayable to me. When I first booted the board it passed the quick check and would run faulty. Found that there's a more thorough check of the mask roms when powering up with the 3rd dipswitch on...

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Yesterday I received the new Tantalum caps and installed them as a last bit of work for the game, they're the beige 3.3uf 35v standard one's that are currently available and I just replaced the 4 around the regulators for good measure since they were all the same value in that area and another...

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Found the short! Bad capacitor just below voltage regulator 7815 on the sound pcb. It's a 3.3uf 35v tantalum cap. When poking around the board I noticed the left 2 legs of the 7815 regulator had continuity? didn't seem right. I removed the cap next to it, and another cap of the same value...

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Ok, thanks, I'm going through the processes here one by one, taking my time with it and taking notes, I figured the resistor may be the volume mod but they used a 10k ohm one. I have a 22k ohm that they recommend and although this won't cause the trip will change that while it's out.

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

I just replaced the transistors but it didn’t solve the problem, still trips the breaker as soon as plugged in. They were in need of service as loose and the back side of 1 wasn’t even soldered in. I’m looking through it now for a short, I see something suspect but not sure what it is? If it’s...

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Thank you & thanks for sharing. That's great about the kids getting to play it for Halloween and it's a good point about it being a game that's quick for most people to pick up, maybe among the best vector games in that aspect, couple that with the feeling once inside, the way the ships fly...

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Thanks for your help again, appreciated. Ok, great. I'll order and figure along with tracing back will have them on hand to get ahead of the more obvious first. Thanks again Jason.

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Thanks Jason, so it seems the 2 transistors on the bottom of the board? Looks like there's 2 above it but regulators instead? They are usually OK? So thinking that might be a good way to test, could pull them out and try, would immediately know.

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Thanks, yeah, it's strange, I have some games where cosmetically they're a mess and operationally they're perfect, go figure? OK, I'm happy it's narrowed down to the sound card now and will try & do that. Any other pointers? I heard the amps on these are a possible suspect?

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Lol, for sure. Hmmm. I have the original manual but did it ever have an expanded schematic? Yes, I'm figuring this will be the next step now, to travel through it like I did the main pcb today all day.

Tail Gunner 2: Need help to bring to bring it back up!

Thanks @ArcadeJason! Forgive me that it’s not in its permanent spot right now but just need a little bit of space to work on it in the meantime.
