The making of "The Quest for Space Knife"

Been working my tail off on it the past week. I'm very happy with the progress... Coin door is done now, painted semi-gloss black with gloss play splatter for effect. All new $.25 lenses and new 161 bulb sockets which it was missing. The monitor mount is complete. Will be a Dell 20" 4:3...

The making of "The Quest for Space Knife"

Hi. Thanks. So I'm tossing up using GameEx under a windows 7 64bit build, vs doing Batocera... with Batocera, I don't like using MAME2003 or the older variants. I run my other MAME cabinets on version 140 through custom GameEx themes. I know Batocera is nearly bullet-proof, but for Arcade...

The making of "The Quest for Space Knife"

A big shout out and thanks to TheArcadeBoneyard.com. I purchased a Midway cabinet back panel that he hand makes. It's perfect. An exact duplicate of the original unit...right down to pre drilled and countersunk screw holes. I'm very happy with the fit. I picked it up in person while I was...

The making of "The Quest for Space Knife"

Finally, today I finished the repairs. The extensions give a whole different look to the cabinet. The bottom looks more like a Stern cabinet. Lol.

The making of "The Quest for Space Knife"

Stripping was arduous...but I found that Easy Off oven cleaner works great! That when I found that these were not the original sides to this cabinet, no white Formica. I also discovered from the layers of paint that it had been converted to a Ms. Pac-Man and some other game before returning...

The making of "The Quest for Space Knife"

Being a huge fan of Stranger Things and knowing this cabinet and game didn't exist, other than a fun tribute to someone that worked on the show, I decided it would make a really cool wedding gift for my daughter and son-in-law who love my arcade machines, both the real and MAME cabinets I own...

Repro model number and warning stickers aluminum/vinyl

This is from the back of what was a Galaxian cabinet, then converted to Ms. Pac-Man. The same sticker appears on the back of my Gorf cabinet, but different font. The letters are blue on this one, on the Gorf, they're black. My guess is they were for US and Canada models.

Easy-Off oven cleaner great for paint stripping cabinets.

I know I sound nuts here...but this is the 2nd time I am having to strip a cabinet from that typical thick black goo paint many of these old cabinets are covered with when they're converted into other games... And wow does it work!! I tried using regular paint stripper, coat after coat of the...

    Cracked lamination on wood

Lowes sells cabinet paint that goes on smooth as glass, no spray. Use a roll sponge. Sand the surface down, and have at it. I use this paint on all my cabinets rather than spraying now. It's an oil based, water clean-up..if that even makes sense. I think it's more of a dye than a paint...

Midway plastic u-channel for glass edge?

Hi. I've been looking for years for this stuff or at least some form of replacement. Anyone have any idea what they used, or if I can source a good replacement somewhere? I'm reworking a Galaxian cabinet now and I need it, along with my Gorf cabinet that is missing the right side. I used...

Repro model number and warning stickers aluminum/vinyl

Hi! These are amazing. I just wanted to thank you for the efforts. Often we do things as a hobby or for fun and it becomes a part-time unpaid job. Even if the font is slightly off, or there is blur in the wording, this is FAR better than anything I ever made on paper and an inkjet. If...

Repainting Robotron cabinet question with exciting PIC! :)

Paint I used and end result the black is the same brand and has a layer of wipe-on urathane for the semi-gloss sheen. The stuff layers great and give a sprayed on look. It's next to impossible to tell I used a sponge roller on it.

Repainting Robotron cabinet question with exciting PIC! :)

Yeah, sand it to bare wood, sand till you get to 220/400. Use cabinet paint from Lowes. I think Valspar makes it. It works fantastic on wood, looks like you sprayed it. White wash it and sand again. That will give you an idea of how flat the side is. Then go from there. The Williams...

Repainting Robotron cabinet question with exciting PIC! :)

I've done the side art on a split MAME cabinet for my wife. It was originally a beat-up Heavy Barrel cabinet I turned into a Galaxian/Robotron cabinet with corresponding artwork on either side, split in the front down the middle. The side art for Robotron I cut from oak tag and made each layer...

Looking for BerZerk or Frenzy metal control panel specs

Hi. I'm looking to restore my now 21 year old MAMEd BerZerk cabinet. The original cabinet was a disaster required extensive work, but 20 years later, I see where I'd like to bring it back even further to the original design. Is anyone making the panel enymoe, had one to sell or at least...

Need help with Galaga cabinet build plans

HI. For my next project I am looking at building "Space Knife" from Stranger Things and make it into a working MAME cabinet. So I need to either source a Galaga cabinet, or build one. I've found two sets of plans, one of which has no individual part dimension, the other the cabinet dims...

Factory converted Krull from Juno First

A little off topic... Reactor was that machine you knew was in the arcade, the bass was so strong. Great sound, tough game to play. Reactor - most of the sounds and the music -loud! Spy Hunter - music Defender - pods and laser shots - who didn't love those sounds!! Joust - startup and...
