Glad you got it fixed. I was going to say I have found a couple of original 2N3055's recently that have tested good with no load but drop to a volt or 2 when hooked up to a board.

I would try to recap the main board first and maybe you'll get lucky. There's only a few caps so it's pretty quick, cheap, and easy. There are also a couple of common transistors in the brightness section you should check. The manual gives a good explanation of how the brightness circuit works...

I filled in an area that size on my Ms Pacman using bondo. Make a frame around the area to fill in using some slick cardboard, like a cereal box, to get the right shape. It will mostly peel off when the bondo hardens and the remainder will sand off easily. The first picture shows the cardboard...

As part of an auction lot, I received half a dozen K7000A boards. Other than actually hooking them up to a tube, is there an easy way to test the flybacks on these things?
