    General cleaning questions...

Use Krud Kutter. It’s better than simple green, and just as safe. its better at dissolving nicotine, which is the biggest type of grime on these games. If you’re going to do the work to wipe cabs down, you might as well use the most effective cleaner. Search Krud Kutter here for many other...

    Cleaning harness wires

Here's what I do to all harnesses: - Remove completely from cabinet. Save the original screws, and note which screws go where. Take pics of how the harness is routed. - Remove any fabric tags (if it's an Atari harness), and note where they go. - Put the harness in a plastic 5-gal...

    Gameroom funky smell

This. I use the Lysol disinfecting spray cleaner with bleach. And a terrycloth rag. Inside and outside of all cab surfaces. Pull the monitor and get in there too. (I also wash the monitors, and all other parts.) Stick a fan blowing into the back of the cab to dry things out quick.

What’s wrong with my V2000/G05 B&W vector monitor?

What Douglas said. Game board issue. Most likely video section (X DAC, TL082, or 4016). FYI if you don't want to try to fix it yourself, I have several refurbed Asteroids boards I'm about to post. You could send yours in, or trade it for one that is ready to go. I give all of these the...

Solved - Centipede not working - not giving 5V at PCB test points

When an AR voltage drops under load, the 2N3055 bottlecap is most likely bad. Especially if the date code shows it's original. All original 3055's should be replaced. Replace it with a legit part from Digikey or APAR. Not Arcadeshop or ebay...

Monitor yoke cavity / corrosion with patina mending repair log. pics

There's a difference between the 40+ years of built up nicotine, smoke, atomized restaurant grease, human dander, and other grime that coats most monitors that spent their lives in bars and restaurants, and the dry dust it's going to collect after you wash it, inside your home. Working on...

    Bondo question and interior cleaning

Lightly spray it down with Formula 409, Greased Lightning, or your favorite spray cleaner, then wipe out with a damp terrycloth rag. The terry is important, as it grabs a lot of junk. If it's really bad, rinse the rag in a bucket of hot water, wring it out good, and wipe down a couple...

Cleaning the inside of the Cabinet

You're on the right path. Your favorite spray cleaner, a bucket of warm water, and a terry facecloth is what I use. Vacuum out first, spray the cleaner, wipe out with the damp cloth as fast as possible (giving the least amount of time to let the water soak into the wood). Then get a fan...

WTB 4way leaf switch joystick. Short throw. Similar to PacMan

+1 for the excellent summary. As someone who's rebuilt a lot of Pac sticks, I've often wondered about all of the knockoff sticks, but haven't tried any of them. Good synopsis though. OP, just hunt down an original Midway Pac stick. They're around. You just have to shake some trees...

    Yeti's Asteroids Deluxe mildew makeover

Remove all electronics. Wash everything in a sink (brick, harness, and all), with a strong bleach-based spray cleaner and hot water. I'd also soak the harness in a bucket with some bleach-based cleaner and hot water as well. Rinse thoroughly and stick in front of a fan overnight to dry...

    my first Bronze Age

Basically what the OP did in the posts above. Wiping the inside floor of the cab out with a damp facecloth or rag (I use a terrycloth rag). (After you vacuum out any large debris.) You can spray it down lightly with your favorite spray cleaner, then wipe it out with the rag multiple times...

FOUND: Major Havoc $10,000 (up to)

Great score. Congrats. I don't know what your plan is to clean that, but I can offer some tips. I prefer to wash everything (and I mean all boards, AR, the brick, harness, and even the tube), but if that's a little too daring for you, you can at least vacuum everything with a nice horsehair...

Solution to use to clean inside of arcade machine

I've cleaned plenty of plywood cabs by spraying with your favorite cleaner (Formula 409, Greased Lightning, Simple Green, etc), then wiping down with a damp facecloth or terry rag. Repeat a few times if necessary. (Also, vacuum out the cab thoroughly first, to get most of the big junk out.)...
