was there a dedicated pole position 2?

There is no evidence to suggest or support the claim that there were dedicated US-cab-style PPII's shipped from the factory. Atari was very good with their documentation. We have manuals for all Atari cabs/products, and all products have documentation and product numbers. None exists for a...

was there a dedicated pole position 2?

that's what I thought (they were kits) but Aaron's post seems to state there were new US PP II cabs. The picture above is of the PP I US style cab (non UK) with the PPII artwork. He says there were 1,500 made. the second article you linked kinda leaves room for the possibility there may have...

Tell me about my PP II

I could be wrong here, but my understanding (from reading threads here) is that 'dedicated' PPII's are only for the Euro version, which has a different cab shape. So I don't *think* there's such a thing as a dedicated US-shaped PPII cab, and the PPII's you see in the PPI-shaped cab are all...

Anyone own a Pole Position COMPACT cab?

I believe that at least some of the uprights and cockpits were manufactured in the US based on the video below.

Anyone own a Pole Position COMPACT cab?

Ok, the dedicated PPII that Steph describes and Glitch's picture above clearly show the socalled "compact cabinet", IMO. Hm, the manual supplement I have is clearly for Pole Position 1. Maybe it didn't sell and they used them up to make PPII conversions? Also I find it a little confusing calling...

Is a dedicated Pole Position 2 rare?

Ok, so I forgot to mention, that my PPII dedicated from Atari Cali., with the Namco pcb DID utilize both ARII's. They really did a custom wire harness for this puppy. Maybe bipassing the onboard sound board the Namco pcb already possessed. Maybe because they were already making the Atari cabs...

Is a dedicated Pole Position 2 rare?

The guy from the site is correct. I had a VERY rare dedicated from factory PPII, and I say this because the harness was custom and dedicated for a standard Atari PPI/II, but made to fit the Namco version pcb. Unfortunately the cabinet was not savable, and I luckily salvaged all the guts and...

Is a dedicated Pole Position 2 rare?

Alright I looked into it a little bit. First there's this, the manual for the kit to change it into a PP2 http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Atari_Kee/Pole_Position_II/Pole_Position_II_TM-255_1st_Printing.pdf Notice to change it into a pp2, you had to install 14 sockets. In my opinion...

    Paperboy and Championship Sprint combo

You can play marble madness on a system 2 cabinet? What is the process for wiring the controls?

    Paperboy and Championship Sprint combo

I have a CS and swap in the boards for Super Sprint and Paperboy. Also note that the control panels for System 1 games (like Marble Madness) will fit on the cabinet. Running Super Sprint require no wiring changes - it's just that there is no way to play the yellow car (but no harm either)...

Pole Position 2 mechanically compared to PP1

The smaller cabinet is the European version. The PPII Sideart was also available for the conversion--mine has it (although this photo is missing the correct dash decal that I added later).

How many (dedicated) games do you own? and...On what do you play MAME??

I bought an empty Pole Position II cab and put mame in it. Love it. Other than that, I have 13 working dedicated games in my house. Actually, wait. 12. One of them is a JAMMA 60-n-1. Working at the moment: MAME PPII Joust Rampage Donkey Kong Tron Space Wars (Hells yeah!) Pac-Man (With...

How many (dedicated) games do you own? and...On what do you play MAME??

I'm interested in how you set this up (what flavor of mame, dos or win, interface, cpu speed, etc.) - obviously a completely different topic. I've got some empty cabs that I wouldn't mind going this route with... Back on topic- When I was young and in the arcades, I would be the guy...

    What's the difference between......

Not entirely true! My PP and PPII both work and I am not what you would call a "competent tech"... but I know a few! ;)
  16. was there a dedicated pole position 2?

I found a namco flyer that seems to suggest there was a dedicated PPII cockpit. Don't know about the upright.

    PQ: Dedicated Pole Position II

I agree... PP cabs ARE a dime a dozen. Working ones aren't. Good catch on the screws. That would be a biggie for me. $150-$200 maybe. BTW - That is NOT a dedicated PPII cabinet but, like 95% of the others out there... a converted PP. PPII cabinets have their own (different) art.
  18. PQ: Dedicated Pole Position II

I might be able to get a PPII but they guy is telling me to make an offer. Its a dedicated cabinet in good working and cosmetic shape. What would be a reasonable offer?

    Pole Position Side Art Opinions

From what I've seen there has been little demand for PP side art, but PPII side art is another story... I've had 3 PP's and all 3 had 8+ side art... but PPII is a rarity...
