Unless you put the game in tournament mode and lock down the "catch up" mode, the game is pretty forgiving and speeds up the other players behind you. That's what allows the linked machines to set record times that you could never get in single player mode.

I think it was because there was a significant gap between the plate and the wood CP, so we closed that with Bondo for yucks. I don't know if it would've been a problem or not.
