  1. Lamps don't work in old Bally Kiss & Star Trek

I am focusing on the connectors at this time. Specifically the grounds on J4. Thanks
  2. Bally Black Jack bumpers/flippers etc. not working.

I went to test the KISS for the lamps, and none of the transistors have collector tabs to ground against to check the lamp (per the repair procedures book). I moved to Star Trek, which is a solinoid issue. I grounded the 2 bad transistor tabs and the two solenoids that would not work...
  3. Need help soldering

Thanks for all the suggestions. As soon as I got some new solder, everything worked as it should. I was sold crappy solder off ebay.
  4. Bally Black Jack bumpers/flippers etc. not working.

Do you mean to remove the connector (female) then jump a pin to ground? I forgot to note: I am working on KISS and Star Trek, old Ballys. When I jump the non common side to ground, the bulbs that are out light, but they are brighter than the rest.
  5. Lamps don't work in old Bally Kiss & Star Trek

Most of the lights run through J2 work. For most of the other lights, jumping from non-common side to ground results in them lighting, but brighter then the rest. I have a Star Trek with some lights out (most are on) and the same thing happens.
  6. Lamps don't work in old Bally Kiss & Star Trek

These are the old 1978-1980 games. On Star Trek, a bunch of lamps don't work. I assumed that it was bad lampholders, and have not done much with it yet. On Kiss, no switched lamps were working. I traced the problem back to TP4 having no power on the power assembly board. I replaced the...
  7. Need help soldering

It was the solder. I got 40/60 rosin core and finished job in minutes. The solder I was using came with the cheap iron I bought. Guess I got screwed. Now I gotta get my Bally lamps working. If anyone is knowledgable about KISS/Star Trek from late 70's, I'd appreciate some help. I'm posting...
  8. Need help soldering

I'll run downtown and see if I can get more solder. I am about out as it is. I can't remember the type I got, but I am sure it was for electronics work.
  9. Need help soldering

This is hopeless. I managed to get the tip tinned, in that it is shiny with solder. If I hold solder against the tip, it melts in a couple seconds. If I place the tip of the iron against the hole in the circuit board and the wire through the hole, leave it there for a few seconds, then place...
  10. Need help soldering

This is likely my problem, then. Any way to fix the tip, at least to try again.
  11. Need help soldering

This is so frustrating. I cleaned the tip, and it seemed to hold solder on it, a thin layer. It also seems to get blackened as well. It will melt solder against the tip when the solder is held there for about 5 seconds. However, when I place the tip at the junction of the board and the wire...
  12. Need help soldering

I'm really coming unglued. I am on my third soldering iron, having now bought a weller WES51. The problem is that the tip never gets hot enough to melt the solder. Solder will melt an inch or so up from the tip, but never at the tip. I have the weller turned up to 850 degrees, and it will...
  13. Imperial Kortek KTN-2001 Monitor Problem

I have a Hsync and a V sync, that are going to H and V on the monitor board. There is no composite out of board. I managed to stop the up/down rolling with an adjustment knob on the board (not on the remote board). Now, however, it rolls left to right, and I can't get it centered on screen...
  14. Imperial Kortek KTN-2001 Monitor Problem

I posted a video on youtube on this monitor once I plugged it into missle command. I can't stop the rolling. I've spent a lot of time twisting the knobs on the remote controller, to no avail. I bought this from Arcadeshop.com. Have I been ripped off, or is there a way to get this working...
  15. Need help soldering chip holder in

Suggestion on how to fix board when the ring has been pulled out? Looks like pulling out the ring may have broken a contact lead as well. Thanks for info
  16. Need help soldering chip holder in

Two cheap irons, 25W and 40W. No temp setting, just plug them in. One has a finer tip than the other. Neither will heat the solder enough to melt it. Solder is very thin, 1/16 inch? or so. 60/40 I'll try sanding the tip to fix cold spots. It does seem like only certain parts of the...
  17. Need help soldering chip holder in

I did both google search and tutorial from the beginning. It all fell apart when the solder would not melt. It took about 2 seconds for the old solder to melt to release the pins from the old chip. Perhaps it is the solder? I am using 60/40. Should I be using something else. It is tough...
  18. Need help soldering chip holder in

I've damaged it. Now practicing for next time. No idea what the socket question means What is solder pads? I placed the tip of the solder iron against the pin out of the back of the board and the board itself. Held it there for like 2 minutes after the iron had been on for 10 minutes. The...
  19. Need help soldering chip holder in

Or any other component, for that matter. I was able to get the old chip out, clear out holes with solder sucker. However, cannot get the solder to melt when I heat the legs of the chip holder (from the bottom). Solder will melt when touched to the iron, and the iron is hot, but it will not...
  20. Can I put an LCD panel/monitor in a Missile Command

Is that sarcasm? I was a little worried about the question.
