Received the repro unpopulated P316 board and there is no continuity between B & E pads where Q905 would be. So either my original populated P316 has this continuity due to an abnormal short or the result of conductivity though neighboring components.

Should have mentioned I replaced R907 with 3.9 ohm 5W as well. Found my BK HV probe and measuring 21kV at the anode with no change when HV pot altered. Inspected traces around flyback and did not see anything inhibiting continuity. Tested continuity from each flyback pin to a pad on same trace...

Q900 has a TO-3 insulator and the spacer is apparently missing so I disconnected that transistor from the frame (ordered thermal spacers and SI insulators). I replaced the 2.2 ohm R901 with a 3.9 5W. Vectors look much better and hardly any blooming unless I turn up the screen pot too high. B+...
