I fixed the issue. In case anyone else comes across this thread, I'll show what fixed it. It took a while, but after going through the schematic, I found that the sound board takes in two voltages: +5V from the switching power supply, and +12V from a custom Sega power supply. The custom...

It's a consistent tone on all four channels that doesn't change no matter what is on the screen. It is affected by the volume pot; if I turn it up, the hum gets louder, if I turn it down, the hum gets quieter.

So I replaced most of the capacitors that seem to perform AC noise filtering (as per the schematic), and it made no appreciable difference in the hum. In fact, I tested the old capacitors with my DMM after I had removed them from the board, and they all seemed good. After doing a bit more...

Wouldn't be hard to do, just route the incoming voltage pins to each slot on the underside of the board. But, that's not a great idea. Besides wasting electricity and generating heat, you're probably risking overloading the PSU. It's better to just leave it the way it is, imho.

You're probably right, I just checked some of the caps, and more than a few are shorted. Probably need to recap the entire board. That sucks since there's probably close to 50 caps on here, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Thanks!

I just procured a sit-down Sega Turbo, and it only has a couple problems with it. The first is that some of the cars show as a long white line that spans the length of the screen vertically. I haven't looked into that issue much yet, but I'm sure that has something to do with the sprite chip...

That's really unfortunate. I will see if I can find someone with a rejuvenator. In the meantime, is it safe to play after it has warmed up a little, or am I just doing more damage to it?
