Pulled a monitor out of a cab the other day. Just took a look at it today and there are no convergence rings??? Or is this a “bonded yoke” monitor? Maybe the rings fell off at some point in its life? But I’m not even sure if there is a place for them. Forgive my ignorance on this, I’m horrible...

More anecdotes here... The 25" tubes I've picked up are mostly bonded yokes with integrated magnetics/no rings. This is OK with many of the K7000 and other monitor chassis of racing games era as the yoke specs are pretty close and I've been able to adjust out the differences on the remote...

After reading around a bit it I found out about bonded yokes (aka no convergence rings). The general consensus seems to be that they are not suitable for tube swaps. There are rumors of ways to remove them, I'm honestly not even fully sure what's keeping it on. I can't see much glue anywhere...

You can you small magnets on the back of the tube to correct that. You just have to leave the degauss coil unplugged.

If anyone is curious, I pulled the monitor today to attempt to fix this only to find out it has a bonded yoke with no calibration rings. I had another tube sitting around that had calibration rings on it, so I swapped it in. It also had pretty bad purity issues, but not as severe as in the pics...

Tubes with bonded yokes typically have no rings and the yoke is physically glued (bonded) to the tube. So, yes, you could remove the yoke with effort and care and swap a new yoke on to it, but then you'd have no convergence rings. A donor set of rings would be a crapshoot.

The one without purity rings has a bonded yoke. Those are a pain in the ass to remove without breaking the tube. Ive done it, just takes a long time and patients. I would hold on to it and see if you can match the yoke thats on it to a chassis. All the a48 tubes will work on any standard res...

Beat me to it. I've never had luck with the heat gun. I have a handful of tubes with bonded yokes, one of these days I want to get an old battery charger and try the method of connecting the yoke to the charger for 10 minutes.

your rings are that band on the back and no adjustment and that yoke looks like a bonded yoke so very tough to remove without damage. there are some threads on here where people used a heat gun but i have not tried that.

Dang. In the past, with 19" swaps, I've kept the donor rings on the donor tube and kept the original yoke with the original chassis. I've never done a 19" k7000 though. My 25" k7000 donor tubes have had yokes "close enough" to leave on. I was hoping that the k7000 med res was similar.... I've...
