    Mesquite, TX SuperAuctions Dec 18

I am probably going to show up for a bit. I won't be buying anything, but I was wondering if anybody going there might know of someone locally (who may even show up at the event) who works on Asteroids monitors. I'm thinking about putting my cocktail in the back of the truck and seeing if...

Elecrohome G05-805: Small fire on HV Board

I've just finished testing every resistor on the board, and here's my findings. Unless corrected, I plan to replace the following: All four 1k0 Trim Pots (R600,R602,R700,R702) appear to be reporting a max value of .85 which seems low, two of them actually dial down to 0 while two of them min...

19V2000, post cap kit, but new issues

You should only have to replace a resistor if 1) it is shorted 0.000 readings or 2) it reads above/below the 5% (or whatever) tolerance rating for that resistor. I've started to chart all my resistor readings, and have come up with 4 so far which are outside the tolerance. My Trim pots are...

19V2000, post cap kit, but new issues

Jeeze! 140$ .. I think I dumped that much into my monitor thus far trying to get it to work myself :) So close.. i'm still gonna work on this myself for a bit more! -csa

19V2000, post cap kit, but new issues

Hmm.. I was thinking more along the lines of sending out just the deflection board to someone who has the other parts.. -csa

19V2000, post cap kit, but new issues

Well, if you find someone you trust to send it to let me know. I'm almost there as well. As for sold not told.. i just get the feeling there's a lot of variables, and non-obvious fixes are hard to diagnose remotely. *shrug* -csa

19V2000, post cap kit, but new issues

From what I gather, if you see a single line in the center of your moinitor (fold over), it means there is a problem in either the X or Y circuit. If fuses are blowing, it means something is shorted. If the spot killer is on, something is still "broke". That's about all I understand at this...

19V2000, post cap kit, but new issues

There is supposed to be a plastic mica insulator between the frame and the transistor. You also need to put that heat resistant grease between the frame and the mica, and also between the mica and the transistor. I'm not sure about the metal vs. plastic screws to be honest. I'm surprised to...

19V2000, post cap kit, but new issues

I think each kind of transistor tests a bit differently. The important thing (in diode mode) is that readings only happen in one direction, and are not 0.000 Having them swapped probably caused some other components in your board to fail.. hopefully those things you've all ready caught. Me...

have you tested the bottlecap transistors on the monitor? If one of them are bad you could have collapse. -csa

Very nice! Glad to hear the UPS thing worked out in the end. -csa

Elecrohome G05-805: Small fire on HV Board

I have two repaired game pcb's, an asteroids and an asteroids deluxe. Both were verified working complete with picture of the game playing on the test bench before returned to me. Both boards are exhibiting the same right screen foldover.. which makes me think it's not the pcbs. So if you...

Elecrohome G05-805: Small fire on HV Board

Tonight I ripped out D606, D706, D607, and D707 1N914's. All tested fine once pulled. I replaced them all with new ones (they were all ready pulled so why not). Tested the new ones again in circuit, and those diodes all report two way readings. Tomorrow I suppose I'll be pulling some of...

Elecrohome G05-805: Small fire on HV Board

Maybe I shouldn't write things while craving breakfast :D The diodes I speak of are D706, D707, D606, and D607. All four of these are IN914's, and are all exhibiting diode readings going both directions. Other In914's on the board do not seem to do this.. I thought maybe it was just there...

Elecrohome G05-805: Small fire on HV Board

I ran through this last night, and nothing odd popped up. I could probably be more systematic about this, but I basically had the schematic pulled up and ensured all grounded elements were connected, then traced through everything in the 700 series, trying to follow the logic. A mixture of...

Elecrohome G05-805: Small fire on HV Board

I pulled the monitor, diode tested all transistors and diodes on the deflection board (with them all soldered in place) looking for any shorts, didn't find any that were apparent (looked mostly on the 700 side). I've also tested two boards, and both boards do the same thing.. so it's not a...

Elecrohome G05-805: Small fire on HV Board

Negatory. All bottle cap transistors on the chasis pass a diode test. Part of me is glad, since I replaced them all twice now :) So to clarify, if your sitting at player 1 position, the right side of the screen is missing. If you're at player 2 (pcb access side) the left side of the screen...

Elecrohome G05-805: Small fire on HV Board

I've replaced all the heat sinked MPSU57's and MPSU07's on the deflection board. The good news is the spot killer is now off, no fuses blow. I now have an image on the left side of the screen ONLY, and it fills top to bottom. I have tweaked around with the linearity pots in the 700 range, but...
