    Best way to Desolder?

I use Hakko 807 at work, but cannot afford one for home use so I mostly use wick, but have also used plunger type suckers. I agree with YellowDog, if you can afford it. No matter what you decide to use, you should make sure you learn and execute proper technique or circuit board destruction will...

My newly aquired Space Invaders game

I have a SI that isn't working. I just got this game home and don't know it's history. The monitor powers up , but there is a lot of strange characters displayed. $# and other symbols. I can make out a few words and there seems to be some changes in the characters. Almost like it is running...

    EM Housecall SE Michigan

Again Ian speaks the truth! DO NOT use any type of contact cleaner in these EM games. Also WD40 should never be used in these games as a lubricant. All it does is draw moisture and attract dirt. Again all of this is explained in the DVDs that I mentioned previously. Keep us up to date on the...

Tech: Williams Altair Shuffle Alley (EM)

Way to go blbarchik! Glad you figured it out. I think most of the problems with these EM games are more mechanical in nature than electrical (ie switches leaf not moving far enough to make contact or something similiar to your problem etc. etc.) Sometimes a coil may go bad or a wire might break...

    Tempest screen goes dark!

Also, I would like to have a better understanding of the inter-workings of a vector type game. Where is a good source of information on these games? I want to be able to repair and maintain my Tempest for decades to come.

    Tempest screen goes dark!

Unknown. I don't know the exact history of this game. It looks as though everything is original as far as I can tell, but I am obviously no expert.

    Tempest screen goes dark!

So I am playing my Tempest when all of a sudden the screen goes dark (completely black, no images). I was able to continue my game, but no picture, very challenging. Then the picture came back. It has never acted up like this. Is this an indication of a flyback going out?

New Game with a story, pix and ?'s.

What RetroHacker probably was trying to say was that while in the process of replacing the flyback; Hucklebuck73 could also give the game a cap kit treatement. I don't see anywhere in this thread that RetroHacker stated that a cap kit fixes a bad flyback. Just an observation. By the way nice...

    Gameroom Project - Part 1

I guess I didn't understand the importance of a change machine. I simply open the coin door and flick the coin switch a few times and play. It only takes about 10 seconds to rack up numerous credits. That way I don't have to mess with any $$.

What to do with a Taito Cocktail

" What to do with a Taito Cocktail?" If the game still works or only needs a little work; how about you donate it to a local Boys and Girls Club or an after school program of some sort. Forgive me if I missed the details of the game; I only skimmed this thread.
