GO5-802 - (Asteroids) Plays Blind, Spot Killer Lit, 2 Bad Frame Transistors

See the post I linked. 3904's technically will work, but MPSA06 is a better substitute, as it's higher rated. But yes, either will need to be installed backwards from TIS98.

[SOLVED] Electrohome G05-805 15" Monitor full brightness

...are errors in it (which I think I might have posted about in another thread a long time ago, when I looked at it). In general, any place where TIS98 was used, you want to use MPSA06 but backwards. However some of these came with TPS98's already installed backwards from the silkscreen...

[SOLVED] Electrohome G05-805 15" Monitor full brightness

...have to install some of them backwards from what the silkscreen says, or what the original ones were. The silkscreen on most of these is for TIS98, which is what the factory used most of the time (but not all of the time, and some revisions of the PCB had no silkscreen. But most do.) But...

...smoke out of anything on these.) However with 802's, make sure nobody installed wrong/backwards transistors. This refers to the TPS98 and TIS98 ones. This is a common problem on these, because the silkscreen is confusing. A search for TIS98 in posts by me yields multiple threads where...

Asteroids Deluxe help with monitor -- G05-802

Q601/2/3/4 are TIS98 in the schematics, and the silkscreen is oriented for TIS98. However Electrohome also used TPS98's on some of these as well, in those same locations. (They mixed and matched) from board to board, some have TIS, some TPS). However if TPS'es are used for those, they...

Electrohome G05 802 missing top of screen

...do an Advanced Thread Search for posts by me with 'linearity' in the body, you can find posts where I explain this in more detail. Regarding TIS98 vs TPS98 vs MPSA06, etc, this does matter. If you do an Advanced Thread Search, you'll find many threads where I've explained this. Here's a...

G05805 monitor Upper half of screen is off

What fixed the missing screen? Yes, the brightness is the z section. There are a few transistors there that can be bad. The TIS98 and TLS98's. Not the other larger ones. Make sure the pots are ok too, and not cracked.

...and test the paths to and from the frame transistors again. Also, if you replace Q602/3/4, be aware that the schematic and silkscreen say TIS98, but you can also see TPS98's installed on these from the factory, which will be installed backwards from what the TIS98 silkscreen says. You can...

What’s wrong with my V2000/G05 B&W vector monitor?

I just posted a reply in the other thread you have about this. https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/go5-802-b-w-in-asteroids-befuddling-me.498728/

...measurements here to figure out what's wrong, instead of guessing. Guessing is not a troubleshooting strategy. Also, when you replaced the TIS98's, what did you replace them with? Note that these boards came with TIS98's and TPS98's, in the locations that are silkscreened for TIS98's...

    WG 6100 broken (again)..

...it makes things much easier. Note that TPS98 can be replaced with MPSA06 (with the MPSA06 installed in the same orientation as the TPS98). TIS98 (which you can also sometimes see on some vector and other boards) can also be replaced with MPSA06, but the MPSA06 must be installed with the...

Asteroids no neck glow blowing fuses

If you're going to order parts, you want the MPSA06 to replace the TIS98's. **HOWEVER** you need to install them backwards from the orientation of the TIS98's. This is normal, and MPSA06's are handy to have on hand, as they are useful for a lot of subs on arcade stuff. Just remember...

Asteroids no neck glow blowing fuses

Ok, wait. My mistake. I gave you the wrong component numbers. (My brain was in 6100 mode, those are the 6100 numbers). Sorry about that. For a G05-805, you want Q706/707/606/607, and diodes D608 and D708. Repeat what you did for those.

G05-801 works great but spot killer LED is on

Sorry, I missed this thread somehow. Make sure you have your transistors in correctly. TIS98 = MPSA05 (but you have to install them backwards, compared to the TIS98) TPS98 = MPSA05 (installed with the same orientation as TPS98) (And for our purposes here, MPSA05 = MPSA06. I use MPSA06's, so...

Working on a basket case G05-805 15" monitor

...a problem. Also note that you'll even see a similar sub on factory boards themselves. For G05-802 deflection boards, the silkscreen is for TIS98 (and that's what's speced in the manual), but they also used TPS98's on some of them, and installed them backwards. You'll often see these...

Working on a basket case G05-805 15" monitor

Use MPSA06, but install it backwards from how the TIS was installed. TPS98 = MPSA06 TIS98 = MPSA06 (installed opposite direction from the TIS98)

...but they'll work here. (Though they do need to be installed the same way as 06's, which is the same direction as TPS98, but *opposite* of TIS98, which is what the PCB silkscreen is printed for. 06's are a more universal sub for a lot of other lesser-rated small-signal transistors. I buy...

Asteroids G05-801 Center Spot and Trace Lines - Resolved

I assume this is a G05-801, from the part numbers you're mentioning. FYI, Q503 and 506 are both TIS98 in the schematics, and that's what most boards have. However be aware you can also use TPS98 or MPSA06, however you need to put them in backwards. The silkscreen on the board is for TIS98...

...regular replacement on all of them. The only thing you need to watch out for is on G05's and v2000's (not 6100's or Amps), some came with both TIS98 and TPS98 from the factory, in the same locations. The G05's are silkscreened for TIS98, and that's what's in the manual. However you'll see...

    Electrohome G05 802 question

Any of those MPSA's will work. I get the 31-cent ones, which have the leads already bent, which makes them fit nice. So you'll want to install them backwards from the TIS'es you have in there. That HV diode is typical. I literally just refurbed one tonight, and have done a hundred of them...
