That's what it originally looked like, but when I put the cpu board in, the sound didn't work (hence the different board), the monitor needed a bunch of work, the controls were wonky, and the ribbon cables needed to be redone. The marquee was also out, so a new ballast was put in.

Replacement factory parts. There is no 3rd party/aftermarket hardware at all. The only 2 things that I can tell aren't original are the soundboard and the cpu board. All other numbers match.

it lives! went over some cold solder joints and fixed the ribbon cables (some pins didn't have continuity). fires up and is (kind of) playable. this beast needs a monitor recap BAD. what i originally thought was funkiness due to the board is still there. vertical lines and a wavy pic. but...

i know the mpu/rom boards are different, but the rest of the hardware is the same, no? either way, i plugged my mpu/rom boards into my robotron and all i get is a blank purple screen. pretty sure the problem lies in the rom board.

Fired up with just the mpu and rob boards plugged in. Still nothing. Would a bad Rom entirely prevent the machine from booting?

thanks for the suggestions! i do not have an eprom burner, but i know someone who does. i bought a cpu board from ken (yellowdog) that was tested working the day it was sent out, so im almost positive the problem is somewhere else in the machine. ill try unplugging the i/o and sound boards...

its definitely frustrating. 1 step forward and 2 steps back. what i thought was going to be an easy fix (as easy as popping in a board) is turning out to be a big pita. i cant wait to have it working either; i just want to play!

i replaced the ribbon cables for both the rom and i/o board. back to square 1 now. no rug pattern, just a bunch of vertical lines.

i recrimped, but used the same cable. would that make a difference?
