    Toobin' restore project

Project complete, back from the dead! Okay, the project is done! For those of you who are curious, here's a video of the functioning Toobin' marque: (10 second, MPEG 4, .avi file) http://www.kenblair.com/toobin/ToobinMarque.avi Here's the final photo:

    Toobin' restore project

Thanks. The monitor could be better. It's perfectly playable. It has a very small amount of burn-in, but it's very slight. The main problem is that it has a slight side-to-side jitter that appears randomly. The image jumps maybe 1/8 of an inch back and fourth sometimes. Clearly some of the...

    Toobin' restore project

As fasr as I know, no one makes the side art or CPO *except* for the control panel end piece art. I bought those and they look great. That's what you see in the photos in this thread.

    Toobin' restore project

Yes the waterfall assembly goes behind the marquee. When the waterfall assembly is on and working and you look at the marquee, it gives the illusion that the water is flowing. You see movement in the water part of the image on the marquee. It's pretty neat. When I have the time I'll see if I...

    Toobin' restore project

Is t-molding used on the rear of these pieces? Ir doesn't look like it from the photo, but it's hard to tell especially if it's black. If the same MDF or particle board was used to fabricate those pieces the factory, that might have left a bare edge on the back side. I need to figure out how...

    Toobin' restore project

Update I installed the newly fabricated control panel ends and the redone coin door assembly tonight. The waterfall is in and running well with new lamps and starters. The only thing to do is to fabricate the 2.75" squares that fit in between the control panel ends and the cabinet sides. I...

Toobin' gameplay strategies. Are there any??

You know, I was wondering the same thing while playing today. Like most games, I'm really not any good at it to play long on one quarter. Thank goodness for free play. Did you google it?

    Toobin' restore project

Update The waterfall assembly is up and running well. I installed 2 new lamps and a new starter and it works well. It's great to see the final product. I'm still trying to track down coin return buttons, but I think that's the last thing I need. I need to put the sticker on the other end...

ISO Transformer - what does it do?

Wouldn't the need for an isolation transformer be eliminated if the monitor did not use its metal chassis as a ground? Would that be a so-called "double insulated" design?

    WTB Atari coin return buttons

I'm looking for a set of red coin return buttons for an Atari Toobin'. The button assemblies should include the body of the buttons, the front faces, and the "25 cents" plastic insert tags. The fronts should be mostly free of scratches and cosmetic problems. Thanks!

    Legends to Dark Legacy problem

So you're saying that if you remove the upgrade parts (hard drive, chips) and put the game back like it was, it works correctly?

19" WG raster monitor jumps left-right frequently

At this time I haven't decided to tackle the problem. The problem doesn't make the game unplayable at all. I just don't need another sub-project at this time. To start work on it, I'd need to pull the main board out of the monitor, inspect it carefully, and then install new capacitors. It's...

    Toobin' restore project

Complete end pieces I have completed one control panel end piece. The other one needed some paint touch-ups, so it's drying again. Here are three photos of the completed left side piece: White side: Black side: With decal: I'm still waiting on the waterfall assembly to arrive. It will...

Ah yes, another paint related question

I would remove the laminate and then prep the woof surface by sanding, hit it with some primer, sand again, more primer, sand, and then use an appropriate paint.

removing adhesive left behind by cpo

Goo Gone, Goof off, and similar products should do it. Use a plastic or metal scraper. You might also get a bottle of Graffiti Remover.

Thoughts on common failures and the design of games

I was reading something somewhere that detailed a procedure for repairing transformers that had physically come apart. The metal housing would get loose and the metal plates would start vibrating and sometimes making sound. Probably a rare condition though. All great information though. Thanks...

Thoughts on common failures and the design of games

Thoughts on common failures and the design of games I thought I'd just throw this out here- The more I read here, the more I learn about some of the common failures of arcade games. It's interesting to consider that these games were built to withstand a commercial environment, and then think...

    Gauntlet PCB Help

This should be a good thread. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out because it looks like there's a good opportunity to learn some things.
