These new "security" "features" are absolutely infuriating

On the main site, we changed the logic so it now checks for a breached password in the DB before it checks for inactivity. A breached password match causes a password reset link to be emailed, which when clicked on, counts as an email verification. Before it would then ask for another email...

These new "security" "features" are absolutely infuriating

@parodier If you haven't logged in during the last 90 days, the system will force you to reverify your email address (and the forums will keep you from logging in and point you to the main site). In your case, you try logging onto the main site, and the system stopped you to reverify your email...

    New Forum Version in Beta...

Links on the main menu was an error on my part trying to fix the last problem. Search not working is a much larger issue though. Bottom line is that several of the third party addons we use are not yet compatible with XF 2.3. I've shut down the test server for the time being... maybe I'll...

@Azure Oz2 @bobbyb13 Well... that rocket didn't get off the launch pad, did it... Fixed an access control issue.

    New Forum Version in Beta...

We are getting ready to upgrade these forums from Xenforo 2.2 series to the new 2.3 series. It's been a tad of work to get an upgrade to work with the customizations we have installed, but I think we basically have it going... Please give it a try at: https://betaforums.arcade-museum.com/...

Cannot log in on mobile, email verification?

I just sent you a password reset, but it only will remain valid for about 30 minutes. If that doesn't work, go to the main site and log in and use the Forgot My Password link. Your account had an extra security watch on it (no fault of your own) which is why it asked you to reach out.

    Location update?

I manually fixed your profile. Two previous bugs were fixed that caused the problem in the first place, but it didn't retroactively fix people with blank locations. They had to deal with limits on the location field in this forum system that weren't immediately obvious. After we fixed it...

Image Max Size (and vs. page load speed) - and what should max forum image sizes be?

I just added the first post in the thread and added: For the past year or more, we've set the max image & attachment size at 6MB on the forums, with a max of 10 images per post (previous to that it was 5), and each image could have dimensions up to 20,000 pixels in any direction (thumbnails are...

Image Max Size (and vs. page load speed) - and what should max forum image sizes be?

There is an eternal battle here with max image size vs page load speed. Short of it: I'm going to start re-implementing max image dimension sizes, though the site should convert to a smaller size if necessary. Long of it: The site used to allow max image uploads of 200k. Then in March 2017...

These new "security" "features" are absolutely infuriating

Scammers are not only using breached credential sets from other sites on forums all over the internet, but they are also making assumptions based on similar site themes. So credential sets from another arcade or videogame site are more likely to be tried here, than say, those from a sewing...

Question to the admins about an AI project

Skynet - loved the Terminator movies Colossus - The Forbin Project - never saw it. Rotten Tomatoes: 89% critics / 76% audience Demon Seed - never saw it. HAL-9000 - loved 2001, though years later its slow moving... I don't need to see it again. Matrix - Loved...well at least the first one...

Question to the admins about an AI project

Skynet, I mean 'AI', might have some authoritarian or anarchist inclinations... I'm not sure which yet (or both?) :) The AI chatbot NYC set up hasn't been what they intended: "The Microsoft-powered bot says bosses can take worker's tips and that landlords can discriminate based on source of...

Question to the admins about an AI project

What me worry? 9 our of 10 hobbyists following AI's survive will likely live to tell about the experience. Now after turning the monitor on, do you connect the static wrist guard to the blue wire or red wire first? Damn that's funny.

Question to the admins about an AI project

I tried 2 'Ken Layton' questions myself of co-pilot. One of them resulted in a totally worthless answer:. How would Key Layton suggest I fix my arcade game? It just linked to random arcade monitor PDFs The other one was more impressive: How would Ken Layton suggest I fix my Defender PCB...

Thinking about allow non-validated members to view forum attachments....

I think the plugin I installed was for the old vBulletin site, not long before we moved to Xenforo. So my bad, there isn't one currently here. I just did another search. 'Export Conversations' for Xenforo was released by someone named 'Valhalla' but unfortunately the project was cancelled in...

Thinking about allow non-validated members to view forum attachments....

I recall installing a plugin that would allow people to download their conversations/posts. If you can't find it, let me know. There isn't a mechanism to do the same for posts. While it wouldn't be too hard to build, there is so much still in queue for development here, that downloading...

Question to the admins about an AI project

We are at the very early stages of experimenting with AI here, and have some very specific use cases it may begin to creep into the main site. It's less clear to me how useful it will be on the forums, other than to improve the search engine. All the talk is about LLM these days... I'm...

Thinking about allow non-validated members to view forum attachments....

We are moving towards putting watermarks on all images on the site except for flyers. We are a good way through there on the main site. That said I've tried a half dozen watermark removers. 5 were junk. The 6th wasn't. The tech is getting easier all the time. We will have a mechanism for...

Thinking about allow non-validated members to view forum attachments....

I went ahead and gave Probational Members the ability to view attachments. If anyone sees that as a problem for some reason, let me know. I do think it is a good step to get someone towards becoming a full participant, and at least gives them some benefit on the forums from registering.

Thinking about allow non-validated members to view forum attachments....

Currently, anyone with a verified email address can create a forum account, though they can't do much with it except post in a 'Communication With Moderators-Limited Access Users' section that only moderators can read new threads in. To post, people have to pay the $1 or be approved by a...
