    Life before KLOV

I hardly remember life before KLOV for me... I was a dot com kid with maybe 3 video games and 3 penny arcade machines. I've been hanging out here a long time... :)

A very un-Japanese coin-op article from Dec 2020. Coin-op mag publisher vs trade show operator.

I was browsing through the ever-expanding treasure trove of the eLibrary here, and came across an extraordinary issue of Coin Op Journal (like a Japanese RePlay or Play Meter). Grab the popcorn. It's 'safety off time for the literary firearm! Human nature is to like a train wreck, and this...

Funny how arcade game and car hobbies cross over.

My arcade & tech collections consume enough of my life already. So I don't have any room at this point in my life to go too deeply down the automotive side. I do appreciate them though. I'm regularly at the Petersen because of the show we are doing there. Now that's a great car collection...

Well that's an interesting Space Invaders Part II... words don't do it justice

In the eLibrary here, another photo, this one also from Leisure Play... from May 1980. Um... https://elibrary.arcade-museum.com/Leisure-Play

Sea Battle and a girl... (Zaccaria not Ramtek)

Another game I'm not familiar with is Sea Battle... not the 1976 Ramtek release, but the 1980 Zaccaria one. It wasn't even in KLOV but I just added it. I came across it browsing the eLibrary here. This photo is from the cover of the April 1980 issue of Leisure Play (like RePlay or Play Meter...

    Japanese Arcade Warning Signage.

Amusement Journal magazine, a Japanese magazine like RePlay or Play Meter, has a selection of 8 arcade signs that can be downloaded, each available in Japanese and in English (and several other languages). Let's just say there are both some strong cultural differences and similarities...

Testing 1, 2, 3... Are we back up?

I wasn't able to post either... A reboot didn't help. Hard drive has space. Error logs show nothing… It turned out to be a 'helpful' Cloudflare firewall 'feature'. I'm not sure why it started blocking everyone today. In any case, I turned off the troublesome feature, and things are apparently...

Rare PCB? Swinging Singles - Pinout for testing

So there are at least 3 Youtube videos of this game being played off Mame... so shouldn't there be a valid rom set someone? Also... there is apparently a Japanese version of the rom set too (歌麿 - Utamaro). Might the ROM you need can be found there...

Museum of the Game - Petersen Exhibit -- So I guess we're an operator now!

Thanks.. I'm already learning... I had never touched a nvram or an opto controller before. Already I've swapped out a bad eeprom and opto on a Super Off Road (and swapped out the top pcb), an nvram and a subtly bad opto on a pole position, dealt with voltage, monitor, and coin-mech issues on...

Pasadena this weekend - last 25 seconds of the 2025 Classic Tetris World Championships.

I'm fortunate the the SoCal Retro Gaming Expo is held in my home town every year... which again brought us a 3 day Tetris tournament. I shot the end of it, and used it as an excuse to create my first YouTube short..., and my first IG video (ok... am I showing my age?) It's really impressive...

Museum of the Game - Petersen Exhibit -- So I guess we're an operator now!

I'm been posting more often then typical lately, looking for driving machines to buy, and for asking for tech advise on machines that were being cranky.... I mentioned I was working on a little show... when It's come to fruition. I full post about it is in the announcement section for those...

You heard it here first :) Be careful with Arcade 1Up machines because they are 'Vintage'

Last night we stopped by a local ice cream shop. They have had 2 Arcade 1up Pac-Man machines there for a while, and I've not paid much attention to them. I had a moment, so I gave one the operating machine a try. Their signage begged us to be careful with their 'Vintage' Pac-Man machines, and...

Token Vender on Credit Cards - American Changer AC2006 or ??? - Also Nayax?

Yup...that happens. And I'm not quite yet done posting. A lot of this is that 'putting a couple games somewhere' came together on relatively short notice, so there is a lot going on in a short amount of time. I agreed because it should be a great opportunity to promote this site and our...

Token Vender on Credit Cards - American Changer AC2006 or ??? - Also Nayax?

For our upcoming exhibition (news soon), we'll likely be handing out a free token to everyone. However, if someone wants to play a little more, we want to set up a card card based vendor. The location doesn't want to deal with cash. So we are looking at the American Changer AC2006...

Reagan & Gorbachev - Missile Command Marquee

Yup. Guilty as charged. Before I posted I did search for 'reagan marquee' and 'reagan missile command' but the word Reagan never appeared in the old thread... only Ronnie and cold war.

What are the best coin .984 only coin mechs and where should I get them from?

So I'm about to have a number of 80s and 90s games out for the public to use (more about that coming soon), and I'm thinking of coin mechs. I'm looking for .984 coin mechs that won't accept a quarter and will be as reliable as possible. I don't care about saving a few $. I (and others) just...

Operator question: Commercial Classic Arcade Location - How often do videogames break down?

In my case, I'm looking at 10 months (starting in 30 days) with driving games in a museum/gallery location, so no drunks. Probably 250k plays total, or 25k per machine. I'm just a tad anxious about the maintenance side.
