    Ms. Pac-Man Coin Door LEDs

My Ms. Pac has the wedge style bulb sockets (#555), but the voltage is 12VAC. Am I crazy here, shouldn’t these be 44/47 sockets? 555s are 6vac, right? Almost melted my #555 LEDs.. Anyone know what the right socket style is?

    K4600 (19K4625) Low B+ Measurement

I've got a K4600 that's flickering. B+ measures 115vdc, and should be 127vdc. VR501 won't let me adjust above 115vdc.. The chassis was recapped probably 6 years ago, and all caps look fine. I've tested all components on the little side power board, and side transistors (TR501 and TR502) —...

V2000 Blowing More Than Your Mom

Ok, now that I got your attention :ROFLMAO: The 19V2000 that I've got in my Asteroids Deluxe keeps blowing up. In the past year and a half, I've replaced the frame transistors 4 times. The last two times, resistors and transistors have exploded on the deflection circuit - leaving a trail of...

19V2000 - Deflection Circuits Blew Up - Yoke Problem?

My 19V2000 in my Asteroids Deluxe began having power problems a few weeks ago. At first, one of the transistors on the AR was bad. I replaced it to find that the PCB's vector circuit was having issues (I'm not sure what exactly, so I put in a spare PCB). Upon getting it to play blind, I pulled...

Night Driver - Control Panel Restoration

I'm working on a Night Driver with a pretty bad "repair," -- and I'd like to explore options for making it look original or as close to factory condition as possible. It's not a huge deal, but it takes away from the condition (IMO). The original control panel has silk-screened (I think) green...

    Donkey Kong Jr. R39 Blew

I'm helping a friend with their Donkey Kong Jr. The game was originally watchdogging (or at least sounded like it) within the first second of boot, with no image. Using FPGA-CAT, I discovered a faulty RAM chip at 4C and replaced it. The game booted just fine, but the monitor was dim and...

G07 Vertical Collapse - Nothing on Vertical Amplifier Input

I've got a G07 that has vertical collapse. X401 and X402 test okay, FR401 is not open, and all the 400 series parts seem to test okay.. Checking IC501 (HA11244), pins 2 and 3 read 0 vdc. Apparently pin 3 is the vertical amplifier input... tracing it back in the schematics, all the parts prior...

XM702-XM - Not Able to Adjust Focus

I have an XM702-10, which has a faulty focus (R17) pot. There is no change when I try adjusting it- it would spark. It was so gunked up, but there is no adjustment otherwise. I tried using Deoxit on the pot, but it's too far gone. Upon opening it up-- and cleaning it out, the track is gone...

E-Waste as a Source for CRTs?

I got the attached on my door today. I will definitely be making a few trips around my neighborhood to see if there's anything worth saving.. But was curious if anyone has ever thought of contacting your local e-waste company to source CRTs? Seems like a brilliant idea to me.. but then again...

Impossible to Remove Solder Caused by Battery Leak

I purchased a VIDIOT off eBay (hoping it would help me solve the mess of a board I have now -- another story) -- and it's got some battery leak damage in a few places, where the battery from the MPU mounted above must've leaked down onto the VIDIOT. A few pads look pretty nasty, and they're...

How Do You Bend Component Legs?

I bought this tool from APAR, and, unless I’m doing it wrong (totally possible), it’s not much help in making tight bends when bending component legs (because most parts, like resistors, are too big to fit in the center groove). Am I doing this wrong? Is there a better tool or method? Thank you!

Adding Solder to Legs on Parts Side

Is it acceptable to add a little bit of solder on the legs of components on the parts side, so the pads looks a little cleaner? Or is this too much solder? See C102 in the picture below:

    WTB: Astro Fighter Side Art

I'm working on a restoration and would like to get some replacement side art. I don't think anyone's making it, so at this point, I'm looking for NOS. Thanks!

Astro Fighter Restoration: A Granola-Style Challenge!

I acquired an Astro Fighter tonight, thanks to @lgsteelers (and @CharlieG for telling me about it)! It's my first Gremlin granola cabinet, and I'm super excited to take on the challenge! 😆 First look pictures are attached. The list of definite/immediate needs are: 1 - Game PCB (I have some...

    How Do You Test ICs

I've got a boatload of chips that I'm unsure they're fully functional. What's the best (and most economical) way to tell if they're good?

What Flux Pen Do You Use?

How do you apply flux before desoldering? I'm assuming flux pen is the most popular (but could be wrong).. anyway, please -- share what you use! My most recent purchase was this, and it's pretty bad (the tip becomes deformed quite easily, and the flux evaporates before I'm able to grab my...

    Solder Side Parts on ICs

I've seen (quite frequently) parts on the solder side of my boards, most commonly capacitors between IC legs (most recently on my B&K 467, and my Baby Pac Vidiot board). Was it common for boards to come off the factory line like this, and what was the purpose? Would these modifications be...

    Desoldering Braid Recommendations

Setting aside conversations about other desoldering tools and methods... :) A recent @zenomorp video made me want to get some better desoldering braid.. mine is cheapo Amazon China stuff.. I've been researching, and it seems something like this is the "good stuff,", but I was curious if anyone...

    Donkey Kong Joystick Switch Positioning

I have a Donkey Kong whose joystick feels very difficult in the "up" direction. The switches are probably three years old and (I think, could be wrong) have gotten "stiffer" over time. Upon removing the control panel and examining the switches, it looks like the switch in the "up" direction...
