    WG K5515 intermittent HV Shutdown

of course the most fun part of intermittent problems... swapped the VR back and forth and no failure yet, but I have to leave it off a while to be sure or maybe moving the VR holder in the process adjusted the compromised solder joints although the 5515 and 4915 manuals both list the str380...

    WG K5515 intermittent HV Shutdown

seems like every thread (which is few) has contradictory info on the str381 vs str380 on this monitor. edit: I know the manual states str380, but i have now seen more instances of actually being populated with str381 than not. I'm under the impression B+ is supposed to be 123v, but can't find...

    WG K5515 intermittent HV Shutdown

i totally agree with you, and when I do pull the chassis I will of course reflow all header pins and large component legs, I always do and probably already did many years ago when I pulled it. and this is a potentially different issue than the VR... but when I saw it still had the str381 i...

    WG K5515 intermittent HV Shutdown

str381 back in, b+ back to 123v, monitor working... i don't know what to make of that discrepency edit: very few posts about this chassis, but this one i think confirms what i'm seeing but don't know what he searched: "OK, from a quick search, I'm seeing two visual differences between the...

    WG K5515 intermittent HV Shutdown

hmm... fact checking a little bit and both the WG 25K5515 and 19K4915 (medium res) manuals i found online reference STR380 (page 12), which should be 123v (and STR381=130v)... I was under the impression that B+ was supposed to be 123v for the 25" and 130v for the 19" with the STR381 in place...

    WG K5515 intermittent HV Shutdown

thanks, good advice in general but I'm trying to understand better what would cause what i think is hv shutdown, or even know for sure thats what I'm seeing. next time i pull the chassis i will reflow everything, but the fact that it works fine after a few fire ups and them never fails has me a...

    WG K5515 intermittent HV Shutdown

Hey all, I've had a few monitors over the years exhibit this behavior, sometimes a cap kit fixes it sometimes not, but I'd like to learn the proper way to test and find the real problem... In this case its a 25" Wells Gardner K5515 (medium res from a 720°) that I think is going into HV...

Congo Bongo died, pcb brings 5v down

so its definitely the power supply, i hacked in 5v from a wall wart and got raster i wasn't getting before... realized i have the g80 atx adapter in space fury so swapping that over brought congo bongo back to life. i will update this thread once i swap the tip141 but at least i have a working...

My variety of g07 flybacks. I look at them every day, so thought I'd share

yes, i found 6 boxes with what i think is 4 new and 2 that i probably swapped out and put the old one back in the box (before i knew to not swap flybacks unless verified bad so they could work, yes i'm a hoarder)

My variety of g07 flybacks. I look at them every day, so thought I'd share

i never had a problem with bob's stuff back in the day, even a replaced flyback from him on my old missile command upright that I swapped out and failed many years later it was hard to attribute to the actual flyback... I've asked in other threads i think but is there any indicator of...

then you should find a way to try QB-3, terrible name but fun game after one weekend of playing it at cax: > Black Widow, < Robotron edit: I'll have to try Nex Machina, I assume you're familiar with Geometry Wars as well, very fun (especially the PGR2 "secret" minigame, always dreamt to make a...

Congo Bongo died, pcb brings 5v down

thanks for that suggestion... I have to get back to this and make sure its the power supply and then will look into this upgrade... i don't know the difference in draw between the G80 games and Congo Bongo, but CB docs say 4A on the 5v so I would assume the 10A rated TIP-141 should be enough...

i'm surprised gravitar and lunar lander were as high up in the video as they were, even though i love them (i mostly glossed through the list but interesting reminder of some great games), and Tac/Scan should have been represented I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, after...

Congo Bongo died, pcb brings 5v down

yes sorry I wasn't clear, its the original Sega G80 linear power supply, same one used in the G08 vector games would TIP141 be the transistor in question if it is the power supply?

Congo Bongo died, pcb brings 5v down

thanks guys... good info and I'll keep you posted once I find a bulb or resistor to simulate the load, and/or pump a different 5v in and see what happens. also good to know the 12v and 5v are totally separate on this original G80 power supply

Congo Bongo died, pcb brings 5v down

thanks guys i scrounged around yesterday and couldn't find anything i could safely use to give the ps a load and see if it dropped 5v that is still my next thing to do once i do as mentioned above, original power supply, 12v measures fine and works enough to cause a speaker pop when powering...
