This suggestion worked!
I purchased a BXAVG chip and replaced the original on the video PCB. The graphics are now working.
The voices tracks from the movie are still not present, but the game is 100% playable after making some slight adjustments to voltage and setting up convergence.

No scope
Unfortunately I do not. I was hoping I could work this out without needing to wait to acquire one, but seeing as how I do not have a spare vector system I can throw the boards into, it probably would be a good idea. Of course, you need to bear in mind I've already pushed my wife's...
no such luck
unfortunately this is my only vector game, though hopefully I'll have the opportunity to change that down the road :) However, I'm starting to think the AVG chip is the source of my video trouble. As far as missing voice audio - the jury is still out on that one.
ARII Voltage normal
For those of you who were keeping track I just checked voltage on the ARII with my multimeter at the sense test points and got +5.1 V, which seems to be consistent with the recommended voltage for this system I've read elsewhere. I'm really thinking this is not a voltage...
Agreed
Yes, I believe you are completely correct. I read more about the beeps here - http://www.gamefaqs.com/arcade/563968-star-wars-the-empire-strikes-back/faqs/9512
I also found an archive of an expansive troubleshooting guide that I'm starting to dig through here -...
Beep errors
I found this test mode audio chart on another thread:
1) RAM 2F/H on the CPU board (a 2Kx8 for the CPU)
2) RAM 5F on the CPU board (a 2Kx8 for the Matrix processor)
3) RAM 5H on the CPU board (a 2Kx8 for the Matrix processor)
4) RAM 3L on the AVG board (a 2Kx8 for vector RAM) ***...
socketed chips
Thanks. I've already pushed down on each the socketed chips on all three PCBs with no improvement. I was considering removing each one (one at a time) in case there is corrosion I can't see on any of them, but that will need to wait until my kids are asleep so I work carefully...
ARII rebuild
Cool, thanks for your suggestions; I'll order an ARII rebuild kit from Bob Roberts. The harness and edge connectors seemed solid, but that's from a visual inspection - not really sure how to test those out yet. I'm assuming I would replace both harness & connectors at the same...
I recently acquired a Star Wars upright, and to say I'm extremely excited and happy about this is a severe understatement (yadda yadda Holy Grail yadda yadda :D). However, part of the reason I was able to do so was because it has three issues. I'm going to apologize now for the volume of info...
20/25 amp fuse?
Hey Todd,
F3 is the 20/25 amp fuse, correct? From my research here, there's a lot of current going through that. On my Pole Position I was blowing that fuse as the system turned on, so I replaced the fuse holder, then I removed the quick connects and soldered the wires...
Re-pinned?
Not yet, though it's on my TODO list for this game, and the CPU PCB has "repaired" solder-strips on the card edge from before I acquired it, so that probably needs to be addressed also. The best way to do this while making sure it's still possible to reattach the filter board is...
I'd like to start off by thanking everyone who's ever posted repair suggestions for Pole Position, without which I probably would not have gotten this far. I've been trying to find similar issues to this one in the forums, so if I missed a post addressing this issue please let me know. I've...
