The serial number is pressed into the wood of the upper back panel. It's usually very hard to see unless the lighting and viewing angle are just right. Only cabinets that came with an LD-V1000 player need the plate. That's at serial numbers above about 5000. An easier way to tell is to look...

I may have been wrong about the removal of the V1000's feet. But the plate is supposed to be screwed to the bottom of the player so you can't just lift it out, and it can't move in shipping. It's cool that you have yours. A lot of those plates were lost.

A bigger issue than the incoming air filter, is the exhaust filter covering the cooling fan. If you take the cooling fan assembly off of the cabinet, you will find that the fan has been blowing into this fine mesh filter. The result after 40 years is that the filter is blocked up, completely...
