Nope, not G&G. You play a guy in powered armour; high tech stuff. The icons will enable grenade like things that orbit you, missiles, better beam weapons, super jump, and so on. Thanks for the help thus far!

Nope it isn't Side-Arms. Where as this is a floating scroller, the one I'm looking for was a side-scrolling platformer. The icons along the bottom were upgrades for weapons, armor, abilities. Certain enemies, when killed, would drop a goody that, if you picked up, would select the next icon...

An arcade game I played a long time ago. It involved being a little guy, I think in armour. Side scroller. You had a row of icons at the bottom of the screen. As you picked up power thingies, a selector would cycle through the icons. When it got to one you liked, you hit a select button...
