I took my working nba jam board and hooked it up to see if I had sound and the speakers played sound just fine. Something on the board I guess

Yeah I think it is. When the game boots in the diag menu it shows all sound stuff is fine. Is it possible the new flash drive does not match the sound rom?

No I don’t have the pop when booting. I tried switching the dip switches as well to manual test and the screen only boots a green screen then boots the game normally. Not to sure if that’s related or not
