The knocker was causing lights out and a dead Q bert. Turns out there was a problem with the knocker drawing too much current! Couldn't fix the CPU board so we pulled the knocker fuse, Rip replaced the speech chip problem and rebuilt the 5V train. Problem solved no more blown...
I had the same problem but, my filter board had the connectors blown apart when I got it. I loaded that sucker up twice and brought it to rips basement. the first time he replaced the filter board connectors and rebuild the PS 5v output transistor and a few burnt resistors. welll a short time...

Just got back from radioshack, I highly recommend the Desoldering Iron #06-2060. Best 10.99 I've ever spent. unsoldered a cap from my Qbert in less than 15 seconds! and CLEAN! I love this tool.
