Vector MAME (ZVG) for Linux is available

Status of Linux environment Just chiming in -- Chad's menu is very close to complete (as far as I know), and RetroActive has graciously volunteered to examine my source and make a proper Linux program of it. Like most things, getting 80% done isn't that hard... it's the last 20% that kills...

Anybody looking for a 19" amplifone tube and Yoke?

Exactly. Unfortunately, people think a posted price is an invitation to crap all over the thread. I guess *not* posting a price is yet another invitation to crap all over a thread. Once I posted a *price check* message (using the proper headers and etiquette), asking what something (valuable)...

    Wow...rates went up!

My little test I'd drive 4 hours each way to pick up a game. If it isn't worth the drive, then I guess I don't want it that bad :) but yeah, I'll never pay to ship a game.

Right now I'm working with Chad to get a "pure command line" version of menu/vectormame working. Chad also pointed out that I may be able to use kernel mode parallel port drivers to run the ZVG. We still have a lot of things to try, I'll keep you posted.

Here's a quick answer: 1. Find a (recent) distro you like (Ubuntu and Debian have been tried so far) 2. Back up your computer! 3. Install the Linux distro as directed (lots of tutorials on line) -- dual boot if desired 4. Use the package manager to install SDL MAME (that will get all the...

I ran startrek with the following: vmame -video zvg startrek Got 99.98% frame rate and great sound (including speech). I didn't use samples though. speech is emulated.

Just a note: adding the -autoframeskip switch to the command line provides a nice boost for the slower games. I'm getting 97% in Major Havoc (vs. 85%) using this option. SteveJ

Vector MAME (ZVG) for Linux is available

Hey! It's my buddy from Howell NJ! (grew up there) 1. Should run on Fedora, make sure you have the version 1.2 SDL libs 2. People have been running it on a P4 and and AMD 2800+. I have no idea how "low" you can go on CPU, but I don't think the bottleneck is CPU or RAM based. 3. Menu system --...

Thanks for posting the performance numbers haywood. I"m putting up a fix for the "flipx" bug tonight. If you want to improve performance on games like Major Havoc, experiment with the -frameskip option. Skipping half the frames (setting of 5) will get me running at 98%, though there is...
