Thanks for the help! Just played Cosmic Guerillas on an emulator and am 99.9% sure that's the game.

Played this in Pennsylvania in the early 80s. All I can remember is that your ship went from side to side on the bottom of the screen. There was something in the middle and aliens? would come from either side of the screen and steal stuff from what ever was in the middle. You had to keep going...
