Currently converting a beat Ms. Pac cab into a Galaga and am wondering if black matte laminate would be a good option rather than the extreme sanding/priming/repainting as the weather turns colder. Has anyone else used laminate for their Galaga restoration/conversion? Any cons of going this route?
Aside from those found at Home Depot and Lowes, I've also used these particular ones from Amazon a few times and they have performed well (non-marring, stand up well to cabinet weight, smooth movement, etc):

Unsure if this has been covered elsewhere, but I've noticed replacement leaf buttons from multiple vendors suffer an oddity wherein the button has a discernable crunch/pop of the spring when fully pressed that does not seem to exist on original buttons. It is as if the spring collapses on itself...
Should definitely invest in a flush trim router bit before doing anything else! :p
Looks like you are almost there, though. You could fill in the cutaway on the front and apply a new sheet of laminate to cover the mistake if it bothers you also.
Could the Tatung be a VGA-scan monitor? If so it is likely expecting a 31 kHz signal with separate H/V sync. May be causing the stretching/sync issue you are seeing.
As you don't have a replacement pot in spec, could you desolder one of the known working red/blue pots and swap it with the green? This would at least eliminate the assumed non-working green pot itself as the culprit. I.E. if you swap it with the red and suddenly have green but no red, you'll...
I think I may have found the issue. There are a few corroded resistors which I believe contribute to video sync in this area of the circuit. I'll order replacements and see if this fixes it. 🤞
Also noticed capacitors in part of the audio circuitry appear corroded/crusty despite audio working...
Recently picked up a KLAX PCB to install in my Tetris cabinet. The board plays blind as expected but I'm hitting a wall with video. Is there something special I need to do with this particular PCB to get it to work properly?
The cabinet has a WG 19K7610 monitor installed and I have tried all...
Definitely need to order a Stern sticker and replace the blown bulb in the coin door. Stern cabs are just awkwardly shaped enough to make them a pain to tilt and move for sure.
100%!!! They must have also used the cheapest plywood available...I had a laugh at all of the football-shaped patches...
