    When are monitors worth repairing?

Yeah, never junk the monitors. Once they're gone, that's it. I'd definitely try repairing it, heck you can probably get someone to repair the chassis for you for much less than the cost of a new LCD, plus the CRTs look way more accurate in the games than an LCD. You probably won't find a...

Replacing ER2055, what socket size do I need?

I've thought about that vaccum bulb iron, and may give that a go. $100 isn't in my budget right now for a pro de-soldering set-up. Trying to line up that large plastic tip over a tiny pin, isn't my strong suit either. You need like 4 hands to do everything especially if you're trying to hold...

Replacing ER2055, what socket size do I need?

I wouldn't call it a hard time as much as, not everyone in the world is set-up to do repair work. Some of us guys use $30 knock-off Hakko soldering irons with $8 plastic radio shack solderpults and have to do repairs on our living room floors. Now if you've ever used a cheap solderpult, you...

Replacing ER2055, what socket size do I need?

Actually it's proper desoldering gun time. Then maybe a logic probe. It took me 45 mins to extract that chip, and put a socket in. I wanted to remove the chip without damaging it, in case it wasn't the problem. Radioshack Solder-pults are not an efficient method of extracting a chip. It...

Replacing ER2055, what socket size do I need?

Thanks for the advice. Threw in a socket and a new chip, and it still behaves the same. FFFFFF blinks three times when I turn the game on, where the score should be. Saves the scores while the game is on, and doesn't remember them when it's turned off.

Asteroids Deluxe. No neck glow on G05 and coin door link. Oops!

Asteroids Deluxe. No neck glow on G05 and coin door link. Oops! So I was checking voltages on my bulb sockets with my machine on. I guess I inadvertently crossed a wire with my DMM leads, anyway I looked up an saw a dead monitor. I didn't hear anything pop, but the screen was black. The...

Replacing ER2055, what socket size do I need?

Will do. Just ordered the socket from Twisty wrist and the 2 or so other caps that I hadn't replaced on the PCB (because they weren't in the kit). I'll post an update when I throw it in.

Replacing ER2055, what socket size do I need?

Gotcha. Unfortunately I don't have a logic probe. I'll get a socket for that chip and then replace it. I did recap the PCB with Bobs kit, but it didn't change anything.

Replacing ER2055, what socket size do I need?

What is the "chip select?" Here's what happened. I got the game going a few weeks ago. It saved the scores for a week or so and then on start-up I get an FFFFFFF that blinks 3 times where my score should be like it's resetting. Then I get an empty space. It saves scores just like it...
