The blue cubes with tabs on them are, as mentioned above, Construx toys. They were one of my favorite toys as a kid, second only probably to Legos.

The problem exists with the yoke all the way forward. It's also still there if you pull the yoke back a bit and tilt it in different directions. Does your board also have a resistor where the manual says a cap should be and vice versa?

Any info you can post would help. Does yours also have all the discrepancies from the info in the service manual like mine does?

Well, I got the picture looking decent enough for the game to at least be playable, but I can't get it just right. The sides of the picture are bowed in pretty bad and the convergence seems to be off. Any ideas?

I was in front of the monitor when it happened so can't really say precisely where it came from. It only happened once; I haven't heard anymore popping. Is the DAG wire the one that connects to the spring-tensioned wire on the back of the tube? If so, then yes. This is my picture now:
