  1. Spyhunter Upright Repair Blog: Plays fine but no music or sound effects

Thx for the tip Demogo. Turns out the hum issue is covered in the installation instructions for the power supply from the mfr: If you are using this power supply on a spy hunter, and you have a hum there are three possible causes of this: 1. There appears to be several different versions of...
  2. Spyhunter Upright Repair Blog: Plays fine but no music or sound effects

Partial success!! Game sound effects restored!! Woo-hoo!!! I'm embarrassed to report the reason though... ROOKIE mistake : The Dual Amp board wasn't getting any 12VDC power... I almost dislocated my knee kicking myself in the A-- for that oversight... (rule # 1 of electronics troubleshooting...
  3. Spyhunter Upright Repair Blog: Plays fine but no music or sound effects

OK.... STill tinkering with this sound issue. Checked the speaker wiring... Nada. Will eventually look into the dual amp board being the bottleneck for this no sound issue. ... I ran the on-screen diagnostics and nothing bad was reported. The sounds test of the diagnostics did not produce any...

Spyhunter Upright Repair Blog: Plays fine but no music or sound effects Initial Problem: Dark Monitor(no neck glow) and No Music or Sound Effects. Coin door lights are dark. Marquee fluorescent light illuminated at power-up though. Troubleshoot: F1 on Power Supply Board blown. Replaced fuse...

OK... Changing the topic again to be more relevant to my present problems with my Spyhunter upright. Will include a brief summary of what I did to partially restore proper operation. New post will be "Spyhunter Upright: Plays fine but no music or sound effects"
  6. Spy Hunter blowing #3 fuse!

Excellent!! If only all problems could be that simple... Kudos to Hatrick for the tip... (but the power chassis being the problem still doesn't make much sense to me...) For the record though, be sure to post what the problem with your power chassis turned out to be.... If and when I chase the...
  7. Spy Hunter blowing #3 fuse!

Hey Cary I'll assume that you meant the MRCIII CPU Board since it is in the middle position on in the board stack… Just had to be sure… So.... Check the diodes on the power supply chassis?... Wouldn't hurt, but... I would do that last. I guess a simple way to check would be...
  8. Spy Hunter blowing #3 fuse!

Thx for the brief background... Sounds like you are more than able to handle this type of thing. Too funny though... I do OK with circuit boards, but hate monitor (HV) work.. (The circuit board won't knock you on your butt..) My motto has always been to never pay anyone to do something that I...
  9. Spy Hunter blowing #3 fuse!

Great job on isolating that middle MCRIII board! Now we're getting somewhere... I'm going to focus on the nearest capacitors on the circuit traces connected to the J1 connector-pin 18 12V input to the MCRIII CPU board. I'm using the schematic as well as "eyes-on" the board pulled out of my...
  10. Spy Hunter blowing #3 fuse!

Hmmm. I would think that if it were the power chassis, that fuse would blow when any of the boards were plugged into it and started drawing current. That thing is built like a tank... Guess it couldn't hurt checking the diodes though... Have you tried disconnecting power to all of the boards...
  11. Spy Hunter Upright Cheap Squeak Board

Hi All, My troubleshooting has lead me to the Cheap Squeak Board. Plugging the power connector into the board drops the system 5V supply to 4.2V. Removing chips U7(Eprom) and U9(PIA) restores the system voltage to 5.2V. So... I am assuming these chips are bad. Anyone know where I can get...
  12. Spyhunter Upright video/audio issues

OK Guys... I'm ending this topic. Will post again under " Spy Hunter Cheap Squeak Board"
  13. Spy Hunter blowing #3 fuse!

First of all, I would be lost if it were not for this manual from Bally: Bally_Midways_MCR_II_&_III_Systems_(July_1983).pdf (Google it_GREAT service tech resource-and READABLE schematics) Ok... Your “#3” fuse (red wire on one side of the fuse, red/blk wire on the other) on the Power Supply...
  14. Spy Hunter blowing #3 fuse!

Hi, I'm working on a similar issue with my Spyhunter Upright. So.. 1) Your monitor is dark? (no neck glow?) 2) Also what about sound? Does the attract music play you turn it on? 3) Fuse #3 blows. Are you talking about the fuse bank on the power chassis at the bottom of the game? If...
